Winning the toss, Bates opted to bowl on a solid batting surface. Opening the inning, Jones and Lanning were at their best again with another partnership of 100 plus in the tournament. Both the openers looked solid in the middle with the mixture of classy and aggressive shots. The duo had a partnership of 141 runs in 104 balls. Jones was the major contributor with 80 runs including 9 fours and 2 sixes, whereas Meg Lanning scored 64 runs including 7 fours and 1 sixes. Till the 7th over of the match, though they did not lose any wicket, the run rate was just 6, this made batters to go hard and Bates lost her wicket on 23. The in-form allrounder McGrath too departed early. When everyone thought it was over, then came another solid partnership of the day, this time it was Patterson and Devine. They had an excellent partnership of 75 runs in 48 balls which made them come back in the game. Devine got another half-century in WBBL, she scored 58 runs including 6 fours and Coming to Patterson, she was more aggressive compared to both and she scored a lightning inning of 62 runs in just 32 balls at a strike rate of almost 200 including 6 fours and 3 sixes. Sadly, she got out in a mix-up and was run out at 62 during the crucial situation of the game. In the end, though the strikers came so near they couldn’t reach the target as they were short by 2 runs. With the ball, it was a mixed effort from all the bowlers.
