Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and opted to bat first, aiming to post a big total and then apply pressure on Sri Lanka’s batters with early breakthroughs. India’s opener Smriti Mandhana played an exceptional innings of 60 runs off 47 balls at a strike rate of 127.65. Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh then finished strongly in the death overs, contributing 29 off 16 and 30 off 14 respectively, helping India post a competitive 165/6 in 20 overs.

In the second innings, Sri Lanka’s captain Chamari Athapaththu played a fantastic innings of 61 off 43 balls. Harshitha Samarawickrama then sealed the victory for Sri Lanka with her match-winning, unbeaten 69 runs off 51 balls, alongside Kavisha Dilhari, who supported her with a quick 16-ball 30*. Sri Lanka chased down the target comfortably in 18.4 overs, etching their name on the Women’s Asia Cup trophy for the very first time.
