Shathira Jakir Jessy to become first Bangladeshi umpire at Women’s Asia Cup

The upcoming 2024 Women’s Asia Cup will be the ninth edition of the tournament, scheduled from July 19 to July 28, 2024, in Sri Lanka. It will feature eight teams, with all matches played as Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), keeping in mind the T20 World Cup that follows shortly after. The tournament format includes a group round-robin stage followed by a knockout.

Shathira Jakir Jesy becomes the first female umpire from Bangladesh to officiate matches in this tournament’s history.

Shathira Jakir Jesy took to her Facebook page to share the news. She expressed her gratitude, stating that her dream had come true as she embarked on a new mission for the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 in Sri Lanka.

“Alhumdulillah dream comes true, new mission Women’s Asia Cup 2024 (Sri Lanka),” Jesy wrote on her Facebook page.

Jesy announced that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had selected her to officiate the Women’s Asia Cup 2024, scheduled from July 18th to July 28th. She concluded by asking everyone to keep her in their prayers.

“I am happy to announce that Bangladesh Cricket Board have selected me to officiate Women’s Asia Cup 2024 in Sri Lanka July 18th to 28th July. Everyone please keeps me in your prayers.”

Meanwhile, in March this year, BCB had appointed two female umpires – Jesy and Mishu Chowdhury for the first time in its history.
