Despite England struggling on the opening day, Sciver-Brunt stood tall, scoring 51 off 129 deliveries, including four boundaries, before falling to Alana King. With this knock, she became the first batter in women’s cricket history to register a fifty-plus score in six consecutive Test matches.

Having already secured six consecutive white-ball wins, Australia lead 12-0 and are aiming for a 16-0 sweep with a victory in the Test and they continued to assert dominance over England, finishing the day strongly at 56/1 in response to England’s 170.

Phoebe Litchfield and Annabel Sutherland remained unbeaten on 20 and 24, respectively, as the hosts gained an early advantage. However, amid England’s batting struggles, Nat Sciver-Brunt’s historic achievement shone through, reinforcing her stature as one of the most consistent batters in the longest format of the game.

Her remarkable streak of fifty-plus scores began back in January 2022, during the Ashes Test in Canberra, where she played a vital second innings knock of 58. She followed it up with a magnificent, unbeaten 169 against South Africa in Taunton in June 2022, further cementing her reputation as a top-class Test batter.

A year later, in June 2023, she delivered another impactful performance, scoring 78 against Australia in Nottingham. In December of the same year, she put up a resilient 59-run effort against India before returning to her dominant best with a commanding 128 against South Africa in Bloemfontein in 2024.

Now, at the MCG in 2025, she extended her record-breaking run with yet another fighting fifty, keeping England afloat against a relentless Australian attack. Sciver-Brunt’s consistency in Test cricket has been nothing short of phenomenal. Her ability to deliver in crunch situations makes her an indispensable asset for England in red-ball cricket.

Her Test journey began in 2014 when she made her debut against Australia at the WACA in Perth. In that match, England secured a 61-run victory, and the then-young all-rounder made an immediate impact, scoring 49 and 23 with the bat while also picking up 1/30 with the ball.

Over the years, she has continued to evolve, playing 11 more Tests and accumulating 814 runs across 18 innings at a remarkable average of 47.88. She has also contributed with the ball, taking 12 wickets in 16 bowling innings, with a best of 3/41.

As England fights to end the Ashes in high, Sciver-Brunt’s record-breaking feat stands as a testament to her excellence and reliability in the longest format of the game. Whether with the bat or ball, she remains England’s pillar of strength, and her latest achievement only adds to her legacy as one of the finest Test cricketers of her generation.
