22-year-old right-arm pacer from Bristol, Lauren Louise Filer is making the headlines on her Test debut for England in the one-off Test match at Trent Bridge to kickstart the Ashes.
She became the first female cricketer from Weston-super-Mare County Cricket Club. She joined the club when was just a 10-year-old kid. Apart from playing for Weston Club she also represented Somerset. She earned her maiden professional contract when she signed a deal with Welsh Fire in The Hundred League in the year 2022.
“Whilst this achievement is Lauren’s, and Lauren and her family have put so much into this, they’ll also be numerous coaches, youth and senior cricket leaders, teammates, and members who have contributed to Lauren’s development over the last 10 plus years and as a club” was how her club captain expressed his happiness on the occasion of Lauren Filer’s debut for England.
Lauren Filer was a part of the Welsh Fire team in her debut at the women’s version of The Hundred competition in 2022. Although her side had a poor season managing to win just a solitary game against Northern Superchargers, on a personal note, she had a decent season as she picked up 2 wickets with an economy of 7.45 in the six matches she played in the season.

Recently, she was a part of the Western Storm side in the recently concluded Charlotte Edwards Cup 2023, where she put up an impressive performance with the ball. Despite the fact that she just picked up 5 wickets, she had an impressive strike rate of 19.20 throughout the tournament.
She was named in England’s Test squad on the back of her impressive performance at the domestic level. She played for England A in a warm-up match against Australia A where yet again she impressed with her ability to bowl fast and her ability to swing the ball both ways. Her ability to swing the ball at a high pace makes her a player to watch out for in this series in English conditions which offer some assistance for the pacers.
