Megan Schutt completes 100 ODI Wickets, Meg Lanning enters 4000 ODI Runs club

The 1st of the 3 ODIs of Women’s Ashes saw Australia retain the Ashes after bowling out England for 178 winning by 27 runs. Being put in to bat, Australia struggled to keep the scorecard moving before Beth Mooney came to the team’s rescue smashing 73 runs taking the team to a defendable total of 205-9. While Mooney’s performance was applauded with the Player of the Match award, the match also witnessed some milestones being made.

1. Meg Lanning (Australia): 4000 ODI Runs

Entering the 4000 ODI runs club, Captain Lanning not just became the 3rd Australian woman to the milestone after Belinda Clark and Karen Rolton, but also was the second-fastest to it (89 innings) and even took the fewest number of balls (4308).

2. Megan Schutt (Australia): 100 ODI Wickets

Completing 100 ODI wickets, Megan Schutt became the 2nd fastest woman to the milestone, just 2 innings behind her countrymate Cathryn Fitzpatrick who achieved it in 64 innings. She is also the 5th Australian woman to do so.

3. Katherine Brunt (England): 1000 Runs & 100 Wickets

Taking her ODI runs tally over 1000 today, all-rounder Katherine Brunt became the 11th woman and the 2nd one from England to enter the ODI club of 1000 runs and 100 wickets. She reached the milestone in 131 matches.

4. Darcie Brown (Australia): 4 Wicket Haul at age of 18

 

 

Young Darcie Brown was the star of the match with the ball today as she claimed her 2nd 4-wicket haul in ODIs playing just her 4th match of the format. The 18 years old became the 6th woman, 5th from Australia to take a 4-wicket haul in Ashes ODI. A spell that included the wicket of England’s captain Heather Knight, star opener Tammy Beaumont, the best ODI all-rounder Nat Sciver followed by Sophie Ecclestone

5. Alana King (Australia): Debut across 3 Formats in less than 15 Days

It has been a wonderful start to 2022 for Alana King as in a span of just 15 days the youngster has made her debut in all 3 formats of international cricket, becoming the quickest Australian to do so.

Australia has retained the Ashes for the fourth consecutive edition. With two ODIs still to go, all that England can hope is to win both of them to end the competition in a draw.
