Bio:
Tammy Beaumont, a stalwart of English women’s cricket, has carved a niche for herself as one of the most prolific run-scorers for England. She was only 18 when she made her ODI and T20I debuts, and for several years, she combined international duty with a degree in Chemistry and Sports Science at Loughborough University. Having been selected for the MCC Women’s Young Cricketers program in 2012, she was one of the 18 players granted a professional contract in May 2014.
Two successful tours as captain of the England Women’s Academy side, to Sri Lanka in February 2014 and to the UAE in April 2015, saw her selected by new coach Mark Robinson to open the batting in a series in 2016. She blossomed across the tournament, hitting a total of 138 runs and picking up the Player of the Match award in England’s group stage victory against the West Indies. Beaumont’s contributions to England’s World Cup campaigns have been nothing short of extraordinary. In the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup, she played a crucial role in England’s triumph, amassing 410 runs in the tournament and earning the Player of the Tournament award. At the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup, Beaumont and Sarah Taylor scored the highest partnership for any wicket in Women’s Cricket World Cup history, scoring 275 against South Africa. During the same World Cup, she, along with Nat Sciver, set what was at the time the record 4th wicket partnership (170) in Women’s World Cup history. She was named in the ICC Women’s ODI Team of the Year in 2017 after a phenomenal year, contributing to England’s trophy triumph. Following her heroics in the 2017 ICC World Cup, Tammy was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s 2018 New Year Honours list. She was also named one of the Wisden cricketers of the year in 2019.
In 2018, she recorded her maiden T20 hundred against South Africa in a tri-series competition, in which England posted the highest score in women’s T20Is (250). On 23 June 2023, she scored her first Test century in the form of a double century, becoming the first homegrown Kent cricketer, male or female, to have scored an international century across all formats. This double century was not just a personal triumph but also a significant moment for English cricket, showcasing Beaumont’s ability to perform on the grandest stage against one of the strongest teams in the world. Unfortunately, Australia went on to win the match even after Tammy’s masterclass with the bat.
2023 was a phenomenal year for Tammy, as she became the first woman to score a century in ‘The Hundred,’ scoring 118 for Welsh Fire. It was also the highest individual score in the history of either the men’s or women’s competition.
From her early days playing for Kent to becoming a mainstay in the England lineup, Beaumont has continually evolved and refined her skills, accumulating over 6,000 runs in over 225 matches across formats.
