Brief History of Malta Women’s National Cricket Team
The Malta national women’s cricket team represents the island nation in international women’s cricket, showcasing their talent and dedication on the global stage. With the ICC granting full Women’s Twenty20 International (WT20I) status to all its members in April 2018, Malta women’s cricket entered a new era of recognition and opportunity.
Historical highlights – Malta Women’s National Cricket Team
Malta made their debut in WT20I cricket against Romania at the Moara Vlasiei Cricket Ground, Ilfov County, on 27 August 2022, where Romania won the toss and elected to field first. Malta batted first and posted a total of 105/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Sayeda Jahani top-scored for Malta with an unbeaten 42 runs. Anupama Rameshan contributed 11 runs before getting run out. In response, Romania struggled to chase down the target and were bowled out for 73 runs in 18.5 overs. Anupama Rameshan was the most successful bowler for Malta, taking 2 wickets for just 6 runs in her 3.5 overs. Malta won the match by 32 runs and Sayeda Jahani won the first-ever Player of the Match accolade.
