Bio:

What were most of you doing at 16 years of age? Completing assignments or being confused over which field to choose after finishing your board exams? The story of Richa Ghosh is different. At 16, she was part of the Indian women’s team that reached the T20 World Cup final.

Richa Ghosh, an enormous talent from West Bengal, began her cricketing journey at a very young age, inspired by her father, who played club cricket. She was awarded the Domestic Player of the Year in 2018. Richa’s call-up to the national team was justified by her impressive performance in the T20 Challenger Trophy, despite not having an international cap at the time. She made her debut for India at the age of 16 in a T20 match against Australia in 2020, which was part of a tri-series. Despite her youth, she displayed remarkable composure and skill in her initial outings, earning her a spot in the women’s T20 World Cup the same year.

Richa Ghosh’s ability to be flexible with her batting—often batting up the order and sometimes lower-down — has given India the freedom to adapt their batting lineup to different conditions. In 2021, she received another call-up to the national team, this time in the ODI format against Australia. Her stint with the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League provided her with invaluable exposure and experience on the global stage. The wicketkeeper-batter from Bengal was also part of the 2022 Women’s ODI World Cup. She was the only Indian to feature in the ICC’s Team of the Year for 2023. In the 2023 ODI World Cup, Richa had three unbeaten scores against Pakistan, West Indies, and England, finishing the tournament with 136 runs. She also made her Test debut in 2023 against Australia, scoring 52 in her debut innings.

Richa has also made significant strides in domestic and franchise cricket. She was signed by the Bangalore franchise in the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League. Richa Ghosh has worked hard on her wicket-keeping skills, adding value behind the stumps. She had a remarkable 2024, scoring 257 runs in nine innings.

As of 2024, Richa has over 70 appearances across formats, scoring more than 1000 runs. As she continues to evolve as a cricketer, the sky’s the limit for this young sensation.
