Bio:

A young girl gave up science in school and a potential career in hospitality; now known as Smriti Mandhana, she has no regrets as she is currently living the dream of every young Indian. By the age of nine, she was representing Maharashtra in the Under-15 team.

One of the cornerstones of the Indian women’s cricket team, Smriti Mandhana’s journey has been a fascinating one. She made her international debut for India in a T20 match against Bangladesh. On her debut, Smriti was India’s highest scorer with 39 off 36 balls, helping her team win by 10 runs. Within a week, she went on to make her ODI debut against Bangladesh, scoring a handy 25. In 2014, she made her Test debut against England, scoring a match-winning 51 in the second innings, in a historic win, marking India’s first Test victory in eight years.

Since then, Smriti has been an integral part of the Indian women’s side, batting in the top order. She scored her maiden ODI century against Australia in 2016 in Australia. She was selected in the ICC Women’s Team of the Year for 2016. Smriti Mandhana played a crucial role for India in helping them reach the World Cup final in 2017, where India lost to England by just nine runs. She scored 232 runs in nine matches, being India’s third-highest scorer in the tournament.

In 2018, she was honoured with the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Award. She has also represented Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes, becoming the second Indian player to feature in foreign leagues. She became the youngest T20I captain for India when she was announced as captain against England in 2019. Across formats, she has six centuries to her name as of 2024, with five in ODIs and one Test century, which came against Australia in 2021. Smriti Mandhana has received the ICC Player of the Month award. She was honoured with this award in September 2021 for her outstanding performances. Mandhana played a crucial role in India’s historic 3-0 ODI series win against England, finishing as the second highest run-scorer with 181 runs in the series

Currently regarded as one of the best batters in women’s cricket, Smriti Mandhana holds several coveted records. She also led the Royal Challengers Bangalore to the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 title. She was the first cricketer to score ten consecutive fifties while chasing in ODI cricket, as well as the first Indian cricketer to score a Test and ODI century in Australia.

The left-handed opener, who has mastered the trade of demolishing any bowling attack, has made significant contributions with the bat with more than 6500 runs in more than 200 appearances.
