Rajeshwari Gayakwad is a left-arm spinner who has been one of the most consistent performers for India. She made her ODI debut against Sri Lanka in 2014. Rajeshwari was part of the Indian team that reached the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup final. In the same tournament, she registered her best bowling figures, picking up 5/15, which remains one of the best performances in the history of the Women’s Cricket World Cup as of 2024.
Rajeshwari made her T20 International debut shortly after her ODI debut, also against Sri Lanka, in March 2014. Her consistent performances earned her a place in the squad for major tournaments, including the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 in 2014 and 2016. Rajeshwari’s prowess is not limited to ODIs and T20Is; she has also been a valuable player in Test cricket. She made her Test debut against South Africa in November 2014 and has since been a reliable bowler in the longer format. Her control and variations make her a challenging bowler for any batting lineup.
As of 2024, Rajeshwari Gayakwad has played in over 100 international matches, claiming more than 150 wickets across all formats. Her left-arm spin, characterised by sharp turn and strategic variations, has troubled many top-order batters. She has also contributed valuable runs lower down the order, adding depth to India’s batting lineup.
