Nahida Akter to Lead Bangladesh in ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy 2026

Bangladesh have announced a 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy 2026, which is scheduled to begin in the United Arab Emirates on November 12. Left-arm spinner Nahida Akter will lead the team after being appointed captain last month. The decision brings a change in leadership, with Nigar Sultana Joty no longer holding the captaincy. Joty has still been selected and will remain part of the squad as a player throughout the event. Sobhana Mostary has been named vice-captain and will support Nahida in the tournament. The announcement confirms the leadership group as well as the players selected to represent Bangladesh in the UAE.

The board has now confirmed the players who will take part under the new leadership. The team will compete in a 10-team tournament and has been placed in Group B. Bangladesh will face Pakistan, Thailand, the Netherlands and Zimbabwe in this group. Their campaign will begin against Pakistan on November 12 at the Karwan Cricket Ground in Ajman. This will be Bangladesh’s first fixture in the competition, which will be held in the UAE. The team’s remaining group opponents are Thailand, the Netherlands and Zimbabwe.

There are several changes in the selected group, including the return of Disha Biswas. Opener Sathi Rani and all-rounder Jannatul Ferdus Sumona have also received recalls. Both players are back in the squad for the UAE competition. Their selection adds two returning names to the group, while Nahida and Mostary take on the captaincy and vice-captaincy roles.

Marufa Akter will not be available for the tournament because of an ongoing ankle issue. Her absence is one of the changes in the 15-player selection. Batter Sharmin Sultana and off-spinner Sultana Khatun have also missed out and are not included in the squad. In contrast, Disha has returned after missing the Asian Games campaign, while Sathi and Sumona have been recalled. Joty remains in the team despite no longer being captain, with Nahida taking over the leadership and Mostary named as her deputy.

Bangladesh will start their Group B campaign against Pakistan at the Karwan Cricket Ground in Ajman on November 12. They have also been drawn against Thailand, the Netherlands and Zimbabwe in the group. The tournament will feature 10 teams and will take place in the United Arab Emirates. With the squad now announced, the team’s preparations will be centred on the competition and its opening fixture against Pakistan. Nahida will lead the side into the event, supported by vice-captain Mostary.

The final selection includes 15 players, with a mix of returning names and players retained from the squad. Joty’s place means she will continue with the team after the change in captaincy, while Disha is back after missing September’s Asian Games campaign. Sathi Rani and Jannatul Ferdus Sumona have also earned recalls. Marufa’s ongoing ankle issue has kept her out, and Sharmin Sultana and Sultana Khatun have not been selected. Bangladesh will begin the tournament on November 12 against Pakistan in Ajman in the UAE.
