WPL 2027 Auction: Five Players Who Could Attract the Biggest Bids

The TATA Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 auction could see franchises compete fiercely for players who can make an immediate impact. With 146 cricketers shortlisted for just 27 available slots, teams will need to identify match-winners who fit their remaining budgets and squad requirements.

England batter Sophia Dunkley and Australian all-rounder Sophie Molineux have registered at the highest base price of ₹50 lakh, while G. Kamalini, Kiran Navgire and Jess Jonassen have set their reserve prices at ₹40 lakh. Here are five players who could attract strong bidding interest at the WPL 2027 auction.

1. Sophie Molineux – ₹50 Lakh

Australian all-rounder Sophie Molineux is one of the leading candidates to attract a competitive bid. Her performance in the WPL 2024 final remains a major highlight: she dismissed Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues and Alice Capsey in the same over, helping Royal Challengers Bengaluru turn the contest around against Delhi Capitals. RCB went on to win the final by eight wickets. Her left-arm spin, batting depth and experience in high-pressure matches make her an attractive option for teams seeking an overseas all-rounder.

2. Sophia Dunkley – ₹50 Lakh

England’s Sophia Dunkley is another player to watch closely. During the inaugural WPL season in 2023, she scored 121 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 175.36 for Gujarat Giants. Her aggressive approach at the top of the order makes her capable of providing quick starts and putting opposition bowlers under pressure. Dunkley has also continued to demonstrate her T20 batting credentials in other competitions, making her a potential target for franchises looking for overseas batting firepower.

3. G. Kamalini – ₹40 Lakh

Young Indian wicketkeeper-batter G. Kamalini could attract attention because of her age, domestic potential and previous auction valuation. Mumbai Indians acquired her for ₹1.6 crore at the 2025 WPL auction. Across the 2025 and 2026 WPL seasons, she accumulated 107 runs in 14 matches, with a highest score of 32. Although her returns have been modest so far, her wicketkeeping ability and potential for development could appeal to franchises searching for a young Indian player who can contribute over multiple seasons.

4. Kiran Navgire – ₹40 Lakh

Indian power-hitter Kiran Navgire is another name worth watching. Known for her aggressive stroke play, she offers the ability to change the momentum of a T20 innings quickly. Her ₹40 lakh base price places her among the most expensive Indian entries in the auction pool. Teams seeking a batter who can provide boundary-hitting power could consider her, particularly if they need greater attacking depth in the middle order.

5. Jess Jonassen – ₹40 Lakh

Australian left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen rounds off the list. She scored 79 runs at a strike rate of 123.44 during the 2023 WPL season for Delhi Capitals, while also contributing with the ball. Her experience in franchise cricket and ability to offer both bowling and lower-order batting could make her valuable to teams seeking a versatile overseas player. At ₹40 lakh, she enters the auction in a premium base-price category, although her final price will depend on squad needs and competition between franchises.

With only seven overseas slots and 20 Indian slots available, the WPL 2027 auction could produce intense bidding for players who meet specific team needs. These five names have reasons to attract interest, but their final prices will depend on franchise strategies, purse availability and competing bids.
