The White Ferns will have former Blackcaps Andre Adams and Martin Guptill working alongside interim head coach Dean Brownlie during the T20I series against Australia. The pair will join the coaching group, with the squad scheduled to depart for Australia on Monday 12 October. The matches will be played at North Sydney Oval. Their experience will add support ahead of the series.

Guptill will provide specialist batting and fielding support throughout the series in lieu of Craig McMillan, who is recovering from back surgery. He represented the Blackcaps on 367 occasions and is one of New Zealand’s finest white-ball cricketers. Guptill said he was excited about joining the White Ferns and working with the players. “I’m really excited to be joining the White Ferns and looking forward to working with such a talented group of players,” said Guptill. He will support the group.
Guptill also spoke about the progress made by the White Ferns in recent years and the talent coming through the group. He hopes his experience can help players develop their games and give them more options. “The White Ferns have achieved a huge amount in recent years and there’s a lot of exciting talent coming through. If I can help add a few extra tools to the players’ games and support their growth, then that’s something I’ll be really proud of.” His role will focus on batting and fielding support.
Adams is returning to the White Ferns environment after previously working with the team. The Otago Volts Assistant Coach toured with the squad in 2017 and 2023 and has experience from several domestic and franchise coaching roles, including the Birmingham Phoenix Women. Adams represented the Blackcaps on 47 occasions and was pleased to reconnect with the White Ferns. His earlier involvement means he knows the team environment and the pride the players and staff take in representing New Zealand.
“It’s great to be back involved with the White Ferns,” said Adams. He said that having worked with the team before, he knows what a special environment it is and how much pride the players and staff take in representing New Zealand. Adams is also looking forward to the challenge against Australia. “Opportunities like this are exciting because you get to test yourselves against one of the best teams in the world, and we’re looking forward to taking that head on together.” He will provide coaching support.
The White Ferns will begin their Australia schedule with a warm-up match against Governor-General’s XI before the three T20Is.
All four matches are scheduled at North Sydney Oval:
Warm Up v Governor-General’s XI – Thurs 15th Oct – 9:05pm NZT
1st T20I – Sun 18th Oct – 9:15pm NZT
2nd T20I – Tues 20th Oct – 9:15pm NZT
3rd T20I – Thurs 22nd Oct – 9:15pm NZT
Adams and Guptill will now work with Brownlie as the White Ferns prepare for their matches in Australia. Guptill will provide specialist batting and fielding support in lieu of McMillan, while Adams brings his previous White Ferns experience and wider coaching background. The squad will depart on Monday 12 October before its schedule in Australia. Their involvement provides the team with additional coaching support for the series against Australia.
