Georgia Redmayne has been confirmed as Brisbane Heat captain for the 2026-27 Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). 32-year-old wicketkeeper-batter will lead full-time after Jess Jonassen stood down last season. Redmayne previously captained the Heat against the Melbourne Stars in 2023-24, her only match as skipper. The appointment follows a season with Queensland, helping win their second Women’s National Cricket League title and claiming her first Jodie Purves TrophGeorgia Redmayne, Brisbane Heat, WBBL 12, Women’s Big Bash League, Jess Jonassen, Queensland Women, Mark Sorell, Grace Harris, Charli Knotty as Queensland’s best female player.
Redmayne has played 87 games for the Heat and scored 2174 runs, including 14 half centuries, with a highest score of 98no. In all, she has played 144 WBBL matches from 196 T20 games. She now joins Delissa Kimmince, Kirby Short, Charli Knott and Jonassen among those to lead the team in teal. She will now take responsibility for guiding the Heat through WBBL 12.
Redmayne said she was honoured to lead the Heat. “We didn’t perform to our expectations last year, but I was encouraged by the resilience and fightback from the core of the Queensland group to bounce back and win the WNCL,’’ she said. “We have a lot to be excited about from developing the players within our group and what we can achieve this season, as well as drawing from the experience of senior players like ‘JJ’ (Jess Jonassen), Grace Harris, Charli Knott and our internationals.”
Heat coach Mark Sorell congratulated Redmayne on the appointment. “She is a team player and a natural leader, so she understands what needs to be done for the group,’’ he said. “Her efforts as a captain of Queensland have been first rate and we know how determined ‘Red’ is as an individual. We think we are in very safe hands with her,’’ Sorell said.
Brisbane Heat have confirmed nine players for WBBL 12. Redmayne will lead Lily Bassingthwaighte, Sianna Ginger, Sarah Glenn (England), Lucy Hamilton, Grace Harris, Jess Jonassen, Charli Knott and Orla Prendergast (Ireland). Redmayne takes over after Jonassen stood down last season. Her appointment gives Brisbane a new full-time captain for the WBBL 12 campaign ahead.
The Heat will open WBBL 12 against Sydney Sixers at Allan Border Field on Friday, October 30. They will then face Sydney Thunder, Adelaide Strikers, Hobart Hurricanes, Melbourne Stars, Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers. Matches will be played at Allan Border Field, Drummoyne Oval, Junction Oval, Ninja Stadium and Karen Rolton Oval (Adelaide). The WBBL finals are scheduled from December 1 to 5 during the finals period.
