England all-rounder Danielle Gibson has signed a two-year contract extension with Somerset, keeping her at the Cooper Associates County Ground until at least the end of the 2028 season. The 25-year-old’s renewed commitment comes after an influential summer in which she impressed for Somerset in the ECB Women’s One-Day Cup and helped Sunrisers Leeds reach the final of the sixth edition of The Women’s Hundred.
Gibson has been in outstanding form for Somerset in the ongoing 2026 Women’s One-Day Cup. Representing the county in four matches, she has scored 159 runs in four innings at a strike rate of 145.87 and an average of 39.75, including two half-centuries. She has also contributed with the ball, claiming two wickets in three innings.
Under captain Sophie Luff, Somerset finished fifth in the league-stage points table with 35 points from 16 matches. They recorded eight victories and eight defeats, with Gibson’s aggressive batting providing valuable momentum in the middle and lower order. Across her eight appearances for the Club, she has scored 262 runs, including a career-best 77, while her best bowling figures stand at two for 31.
Gibson’s impact was equally evident in The Women’s Hundred, where she led Sunrisers Leeds to a runners-up finish. The side ended the league stage second with 20 points from eight matches, winning five and losing three, before suffering an eight-wicket defeat against Ashleigh Gardner’s Trent Rockets in the final on 16 August 2026.
The all-rounder scored 113 runs at a strike rate of 134.52 and an average of 18.83 across nine innings and 10 matches. She also claimed six wickets at an average of 23.33 and an economy rate of 9.33 in nine bowling innings, underlining her value as a genuine match-winner. A product of the Gloucestershire Pathway, Gibson made her county debut in 2014 at the age of 13. She moved to Wales ahead of the 2019 season and later progressed through Western Storm’s South West Regional Development Programme before making her full Storm debut in the 2018 Kia Super League. She was part of the squad that lifted the title the following summer.
A former England Academy player, Gibson made her international debut during the 2023 Ashes series. She has since represented England 41 times, scoring 311 runs at a best of 41 not out and taking 21 wickets, including career-best figures of three for 14. Her growing reputation has also taken her to franchise cricket, with appearances in the Big Bash and Women’s Premier League. This summer, she became the most expensive player in The Women’s Hundred after joining Sunrisers Leeds from London Spirit.
“I’m pleased to be committing my future to Somerset,” Gibson said. “It’s an exciting time for the Club, and this summer has shown what this squad is capable of.” She added that Somerset had made her feel at home from the beginning and promised to contribute with both bat and ball whenever she wore the county shirt.
Somerset head coach Erin Osborne described Gibson as “an explosive cricketer” and praised the experience she brings to a young group. Director of Talent and Women’s Performance Matt Drakeley said Gibson is a match winner across all three disciplines, adding that her ability to read the game fits perfectly with the environment Osborne has built over the past 12 months.
With her England commitments likely to limit her availability at times, Somerset will value every opportunity to have Gibson in their ranks. Her contract extension nevertheless represents a significant statement of intent from the county and gives their developing squad a proven international all-rounder to build around through 2028.
