Cricket Papua New Guinea (CPNG) will host Thailand Women for a historic bilateral series at Amini Park in Port Moresby from 10 to 17 August 2026, featuring two T20 Internationals followed by three ODIs.
The series will be the first bilateral arrangement between the two boards and an important opportunity for both teams to strengthen their competitive preparation ahead of the next Women’s Cricket World Cup qualification cycle and the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup.
Papua New Guinea and Thailand have faced each other several times in multi-nation T20I events, but they have never met in an ODI. Their upcoming 50-over contests will therefore mark a significant moment for Associate women’s cricket, particularly as both teams have retained ODI status until 2029. The two T20Is will also carry ICC T20I team ranking points, adding further importance to the opening leg of the tour. For Thailand, the series will serve as valuable preparation before the team travels to the United Arab Emirates for the sixth edition of the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup, scheduled from 28 August to 13 September 2026.
The eight-team continental tournament will feature Hong Kong, India, Pakistan and Thailand in Group A, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates will form Group B. Thailand’s campaign in the UAE will make the Papua New Guinea tour especially useful as the side looks to build rhythm, sharpen its combinations and assess players under different match conditions.
For the Lewas, the series follows a recently concluded domestic One-day tournament, allowing the national squad to translate domestic preparation into international performance. The matches are also crucial in the broader context of women’s Associate cricket. Unlike their men’s counterparts, women’s Associate teams with ODI status currently have no dedicated pathway tournament, leaving Scotland, the Netherlands, Thailand, Papua New Guinea and the UAE reliant on bilateral arrangements to remain in contention for Women’s World Cup Qualifier places.
With the process for determining those qualification spots yet to be officially confirmed, regular international cricket has become increasingly important. The Port Moresby series will provide both teams with competitive exposure, ranking opportunities and a rare chance to play a sustained sequence of T20I and ODI fixtures against familiar opponents.
