Australia have retained their commanding position at the top of the ICC Women’s ODI Team Rankings following the latest annual update, with the reigning powerhouse continuing to lead the global standings by a comfortable margin.

The annual update released by the ICC recalibrates team ratings by giving full value to all matches played since May 2025, while results from the previous two years are weighted at 50%. The process is designed to ensure the rankings reflect more recent form while still recognising performances over a longer cycle.

Despite a slight drop of two rating points, Australia remains firmly in first place with 163 rating points, underlining its sustained dominance in the 50-over format. Their lead over the rest of the field remains substantial, with second-placed England on 128 points. Australia’s continued grip on the top spot comes after another consistent period in women’s cricket, where depth, experience, and match-winning quality across departments have kept them ahead of rivals. Even with a minor numerical dip, there has been no serious challenge to their supremacy in the rankings.

England remains at No.2 and has gained two rating points in the update, but the gap between the top two sides is still significant. England have shown progress in recent seasons and continue to be one of the strongest ODI units in the world, though they remain some distance behind Australia in overall rating.

India continues to occupy third place with 124 rating points, maintaining their standing among the leading sides in world cricket. India’s position reflects a period of consistency in the format, with the team continuing to develop a strong core of experienced players and emerging talent.

The top six teams in the rankings remain unchanged after the update, indicating relative stability among the strongest ODI nations. South Africa stays fourth with 100 points, followed by New Zealand in fifth on 93 and Sri Lanka in sixth on 89.

South Africa’s place in the top four highlights their continued competitiveness in global events, while New Zealand remains a reliable force despite slipping behind the leading trio in recent years. Sri Lanka’s retention of sixth spot is another encouraging sign after improvements in their women’s programme and stronger performances in bilateral cricket.

The only movement within the top ten came just outside the top six, where Bangladesh climbed to seventh place with 73 points after overtaking Pakistan, who slipped to eighth on 72. West Indies are ninth with 71 points, remaining within touching distance of Bangladesh and Pakistan. Ireland round out the top ten on 50 points.

Two teams, Thailand and the Netherlands, have dropped out of the current rankings after failing to meet the minimum requirement of eight ODIs in the three-year ranking period. Thailand need one more ODI to return to the standings, while the Netherlands require two matches.

The latest update suggests the balance of power in women’s ODI cricket remains largely unchanged, with Australia still setting the benchmark and England and India leading the chasing pack. The ICC’s annual rankings updates will continue this week, with the Women’s T20I team rankings scheduled to be released next on May 5.
