The move reflects Lancashire’s commitment to building a strong core within their women’s setup, rewarding two players who have already played pivotal roles in the team’s recent success. Carter and Lister were instrumental in Lancashire’s impressive double trophy-winning campaign last season, underlining their growing importance at both domestic and international levels.

Carter, a spin-bowling all-rounder, joined Lancashire on a permanent basis ahead of the 2025 season after an initial loan spell in late 2024. Despite her young age, the 20-year-old has already shown maturity beyond her years. Making 11 appearances for the side, including featuring in the One-Day Cup final against Hampshire at the Utilita Bowl. Her all-round capabilities have added valuable balance to the team, with her ability to contribute with both bat and ball making her a key asset.

On the international stage, Carter has also continued to develop steadily with Scotland. Across 48 appearances in ODI and T20I cricket, she has claimed 27 wickets while also contributing significantly with the bat, registering eight half-centuries. Her highest score of 86 in the 50-over format highlights her potential as a dependable middle-order option.

Lister, meanwhile, has emerged as one of the most exciting young wicketkeeper-batters in the domestic game. Having joined Lancashire ahead of the 2024 season, the 21-year-old overcame an injury-hit debut campaign to enjoy a breakthrough year in 2025. Her performances were recognised with the club’s Young Player of the Year award, a testament to her impact across formats.

In the Women’s T20 Blast competition, Lister scored 281 runs in 13 innings at an average above 35, showcasing her aggressive yet controlled approach at the crease. She carried that form into the One-Day Cup, where she amassed 220 runs in 10 innings, including hitting the winning runs in the final. Lister’s international record further reinforces her credentials. With 63 appearances for Scotland, she has scored 931 runs across white-ball formats and already has four T20I half-centuries to her name.

Both players also played crucial roles for the Scotland team, helping secure qualification for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Their performances on the international stage have not only elevated their profiles but also brought valuable experience back into the Lancashire setup.

Lancashire’s Director of Women’s Cricket, David Thorley, expressed his satisfaction at retaining the duo, emphasizing their potential and contributions. “Darcey and Ailsa are two of the most exciting young players in the country, and we are absolutely delighted to have secured their futures with Lancashire through to 2028,” he said.

“Last season was a hugely positive one for both players. They embraced the step up to more regular senior cricket, made meaningful contributions at different points during the campaign, and showed they have the right temperament and skillset to succeed.”

He further highlighted their international achievements, adding, “What’s been particularly impressive is how they have translated that form onto the international stage. To play such key roles in helping Scotland qualify for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is a fantastic achievement from their winter and they have both returned to us excited for the season ahead.”
