Lord’s Cricket Ground has broken the 20,000-ticket sales barrier for the upcoming Test match between England and India women, signaling a landmark summer for women’s cricket at the Home of Cricket. This historic first women’s Test at Lord’s, starting on Friday, 10 July 2026, comes 50 years after England first played a women’s match there and follows the 10th edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup hosted by England and Wales from 12 June to 5 July 2026.

India will tour England from 28 May to 13 July 2026, featuring a three-match T20I series before the one-off Test at the iconic Lord’s. The last time England Women hosted India for a Test was in June 2021 at County Ground, Bristol, where the match ended in a hard-fought draw.

This summer’s fixture promises renewed rivalry, with India established as one of the strongest teams in women’s cricket, adding the elusive maiden title at the senior level by winning the 13th edition of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 hosted by India from 30th September to 2nd November 2025. India scripted history under the leadership of skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and head coach Amol Muzumdar, defeating South Africa in the final by 52 runs at the DY Patil Stadium.

MCC’s announcement highlights surging fan interest ahead of this red-ball milestone. Tickets remain available for all four days of the Test, underscoring the ground’s ongoing commitment to the women’s game. Lord’s is the only venue confirmed for women’s internationals until at least 2031.

Exactly 50 years after the One-Day International between England and Australia at Lord’s, England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt will lead her side onto the Main Ground, echoing the legacy of Rachael Heyhoe Flint.

Lord’s has hosted 21 England Women internationals, including 18 ODIs and 3 T20Is, matching any other ground in the country for ODI volume. In 2009, England clinched the inaugural ICC Women’s T20 World Cup here, defeating New Zealand by six wickets; in 2017, a sold-out Lord’s witnessed England beat India by 9 runs in the thrilling ICC Women’s World Cup final.

This Test marks the first international red-ball women’s cricket at the venue, elevating its status beyond white-ball triumphs.

The Test slots perfectly post the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, with Lord’s hosting four matches, including the final. England has thrived in limited-overs formats at this hallowed turf, but the multi-day format introduces fresh drama against a formidable India side. Fans can expect a thrilling contest blending history with high-stakes action, as both teams vie for supremacy in a format seeing a resurgence.

Surpassing 20,000 tickets sold reflects explosive growth in the sport, driven by MCC’s dedication. As the only confirmed host for women’s internationals through 2031, Lord’s positions itself as a beacon for equality and excellence. Sciver-Brunt’s leadership adds emotional weight, inspiring a new generation while honouring pioneers like Heyhoe Flint.

This event isn’t just a match, it’s a milestone propelling women’s Test cricket into the spotlight. With availability across all days, cricket lovers have a chance to witness history unfold at the Home of Cricket. The blend of legacy, rivalry, and record-breaking attendance sets the stage for an unforgettable July at Lord’s.
