The National Women’s T20 Tournament 2025-26 bursts into life today at Lahore’s Ghani Glass Cricket Ground, where defending champions Stars, led by leg-spinner Tuba Hassan, clash with Diana Baig’s Challengers in the opener of this high-stakes five-team showdown.

Spanning 17 days with 21 double round-robin matches across Bagh-e-Jinnah, Ghani Glass Cricket Ground, and LCCA Ground, the competition culminates in a final on April 12 at 10:00 am, live-streamed on the PCB YouTube channel. Featuring 80 players in 16-member squads from Stars, Challengers, Conquerors, Invincibles, and Strikers, this edition dangles a PKR 3.3 million prize pool, PKR 1.5 million for winners, PKR 1 million for runners-up, while serving as a crucial proving ground ahead of Pakistan’s packed slate: a home series against Zimbabwe (April 24-May 11), a T20I tri-series in Ireland, and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England and Wales (June 12-July 5), where New Zealand will stride out as the defending champions.
Captains bring star power and strategy to the fray. Tuba Hassan’s Stars lean on experience like batter Sidra Amin to build early momentum, with Tuba emphasising, “The first match is always important to build momentum. As defending champions, we will look to play good cricket and take the team forward. ”Challengers counter with Baig’s 128 international caps and a youth-experience blend she praises: “The side has a good balance of youth and experience… This event is important in the lead-up to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Playing as many matches as possible helps in preparation.”
Last season’s runners-up, Conquerors, rally under white-ball skipper Fatima Sana, who vows to inspire: “As captain, I will try to set an example through my actions, give confidence to the players and encourage them to express themselves.” Wicketkeeper-batter Muneeba Ali helms Invincibles, focusing on adaptability, while left-arm spinner Nashra Sundhu guides Strikers’ mix of veterans and juniors toward international readiness.
This tournament isn’t just domestic drama; it’s a selection hotspot. With each team guaranteed eight matches before the top two vie for glory, emerging talents can stake claims for national call-ups, honing skills against the international calendar’s demands. Sana underscores the bigger picture: “Tournaments like these provide a platform for women cricketers to come forward and perform for Pakistan. We will closely monitor performances here.” As Pakistan eyes World Cup contention, Lahore’s spin-friendly pitches and competitive depth promise fireworks, fielding drills, and breakthroughs that could shape the team’s global push.
