“Just feeling amazing to win the series against Australia in Australia,” says Shreyanka Patil

The Indian women had scripted history at Adelaide this Saturday, with their first bilateral series win in T20Is against Australia on Australian soil since 2016. India bounced back brilliantly in the series decider after a solid performance from the Australian Women in the 2nd match of the series. The skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur, is having a dream run as the captain for the side with consecutive historic triumphs, and it is safe to say that the foundation has been laid for Women’s cricket in the country.

“It feels amazing because before coming to this ground, I was like, Rahul Dravid has 233 runs here and Virat had some crazy innings over here, so I just came thinking it’s going to be my day, we’re going to win this series, and I had that positive feeling today, and when I walked in, I just had that vibe. Just feeling amazing to win the series against Australia in Australia,” said Shreyanka Patil, the Indian spinner who carried the bowling unit in the 2nd innings.

Shreyanka Patil was hit for 24 runs from 2 overs in the opening game of the series, and she looked pretty low on confidence as she was wayward with her line and lengths. She was dropped in the 2nd match and made an impactful comeback in the series finale. She was deeply inspired by the performances of the Indian star players such as Dravid and Kohli, and she was confident in her approach right from ball one. She picked up 3 wickets and gave away just 22 runs in her 4 overs, and she scalped the huge wickets of Georgia Voll, Ellyse Perry and Annabel Sutherland.

“Obviously, you come into a series wanting to do well, you have your personal goals, but I’m really happy that my performance has helped the team win a series, and that gives me a lot of satisfaction,” said Arundhati Reddy, who was a key part of India’s triumph in the series.

Arundhati Reddy bowled an exceptional spell in the opening match and won the player of the match award, picking up 4 wickets and giving away just 22 runs in her 4 overs. She also took 2 wickets in both the 2nd and 3rd T20I of the series, and this highlights her major contribution towards the bowling unit. She has been India’s go-to bowler in crisis, and she delivers every time. She has many variations up her sleeve, and she breaks any blooming partnership from the opposition batting unit.

“To win here in Adelaide, this sums it up, and what a place to do it, one of the most historic grounds. We did that in Sydney, now in Adelaide. I’m really proud of everyone,” said Amol Mazumdar, the Head Coach of the Indian Women’s cricket team.

The Sydney and Adelaide grounds are considered to be one of the greatest cricketing venues, which have been graced by legends of the game and also hosted many thrilling matches in ICC events. The management will be proud of the team and the coaching staff as they have done a marvellous job in moulding the Indian Women’s Cricket team, and this will truly inspire the upcoming generation of female cricketers in India.
