Sophie Molineux has played cricket in many parts of the world, but nothing quite prepared her for what life with Royal Challengers Bengaluru feels like in India.

When the Australian bowling-rounder was asked about “what the RCB world looks like in India,” her words sounded equal parts amazed and amused.
“It’s another world over there,” she said, trying to put into words an experience that is hard to explain unless you’ve lived it. In that world, Ellyse Perry is a queen, Virat Kohli is the king, and cricket is followed with a level of devotion that can feel overwhelming at first.
Molineux is known for her left-arm spin, sharp cricketing brain, and calm presence on the field. She made her WPL debut for RCB in 2024, a season that would go on to change the franchise’s history forever. Across 10 matches, she picked up 12 wickets, often stepping up in crucial moments when RCB needed control and breakthroughs in the middle overs.

Her defining contribution came in the 2024 final against the Delhi Capitals, she was the player of the match. With pressure at its peak, she finished with figures of 3 for 20, conceding runs at an economy of just five. Wickets at short intervals broke Delhi’s momentum and played a huge role in bowling them out for 113. While chasing a target of 114, RCB made no mistakes, reaching 115 and sealing an eight-wicket win to lift their first-ever WPL trophy.
For Molineux, lifting that trophy in RCB colours was about much more than statistics. It was about being part of a moment that fans had waited years for. She has spoken about how the love from Indian cricket fans and RCB supporters feels incredibly special. The cheers, the chants, and the endless attention make you realise just how deeply cricket runs through the country.
Her comments about Ellyse Perry and Virat Kohli capture that feeling perfectly. Perry, with her aura and achievements, is treated like royalty within the RCB setup, while Kohli’s presence defines the franchise itself. To Molineux, being around such figures only reinforced how big the RCB brand truly is in India.
RCB is one of the most loved franchises in India, and the support they receive is truly heartfelt and unconditional. Being part of it feels like entering a different world altogether, with a unique vibe, energy, and aura that’s hard to describe. In India, the WPL season isn’t just about cricket, it’s celebrated like a festival.
