Amelia Kerr, the 25-year-old White Ferns all-rounder and Mumbai Indians star, etched her name in Women’s Premier League (WPL) history by becoming the first bowler to claim 50 wickets in the tournament.

Currently the purple cap holder in the ongoing 4th edition, with 10 wickets from five matches at an average of 14.70 and an economy of 7.35, Kerr also stands as the all-time leading wicket-taker. She reached this landmark in a thrilling clash against UP Warriorz on the final day at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, delivering an impactful spell despite Mumbai Indians’ 22-run defeat.
Amelia Kerr’s journey in the WPL began on March 4, 2023, in the inaugural edition’s season opener for the Mumbai Indians against Gujarat Giants at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. Since her debut under skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, she has terrorised batters across 34 innings, scalping 50 wickets at an average of 17.26 and an economy of 7.59.
Her arsenal includes a five-wicket haul and a four-wicket haul, with her best figures of 5/38 coming on March 6, 2025, against UP Warriorz at Ekana Stadium, Lucknow, restricting them to 150/9 en route to a six-wicket victory for MI.
Entering the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians’ showdown with Meg Lanning’s UP Warriorz in the first game of the second double-header of the season on January 17, 2026, Kerr needed just three wickets for history. With MI winning the toss and bowling first, she unleashed a clinical 4-0-28-3 spell, dismantling Harleen Deol (25 off 16), Sophie Ecclestone (1 off 4), and Deepti Sharma (0 off 2).
UP Warriorz managed 187/8, but MI fell short at 165/6, handing them their third loss this season and second straight to UPW, the only other team besides Delhi Capitals, with Meg Lanning at the helm on both occasions, to beat MI twice in league stages.
Kerr’s all-round brilliance shone through, remaining unbeaten on 49* off 28 balls in the chase. Despite the heartbreak, MI held second spot with four points from five games. UP Warriorz, under Lanning, who once led Delhi Capitals, reaffirmed their prowess.
