As the Women’s Premier League 2026 kicks off with a blockbuster clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and defending champions Mumbai Indians on January 9, one familiar face will be conspicuously absent, Ellyse Perry.

The Australian all-rounder, a cornerstone of RCB’s WPL identity and a fan favorite, has withdrawn from this season citing personal reasons, leaving a palpable void in the lineup and the hearts of supporters. In her place on the team roster, emerging Indian all-rounder Sayali Sathgare was picked up ahead of the season.
Despite not being on the field, Perry made sure her presence was felt. RCB shared a heartfelt video message from the veteran in which she sent her love, encouragement, and best wishes to the squad and the vast fanbase as they embarked on a new campaign.
“Hey team, all the very best tonight and for all of the WPL. I hope you guys have a great time. You’ve got the best fans in the world, and I’m sure they’ll be there cheering you on, as will I from home. Go well, have a great time,” Perry said in the video shared by the franchise. Even from afar, she emphasized her emotional connection with both her teammates and the passionate supporters, reinforcing the bond that has grown over three seasons.
Across her three WPL seasons with RCB, Perry established herself as one of the most impactful players in the tournament’s history, featuring in 25 matches and scoring 972 runs while also picking up 14 wickets. Her 2024 season, in particular, stood out as a defining chapter, as she won the Orange Cap after amassing 347 runs at an average of 69.40.
With the ball, she delivered one of the most memorable performances in WPL history when she registered sensational figures of 6/15 against Mumbai Indians, showcasing her match winning versatility. Beyond the statistics, Perry’s influence extended to crucial moments and leadership off the field, where her calm demeanour, experience and professionalism played a key role in RCB clinching the 2024 WPL title, earning her the reputation of being the heartbeat of the franchise during her time with the team.
As Royal Challengers Bengaluru begin their WPL 2026 campaign without Ellyse Perry, her absence will undoubtedly be felt both on and off the field, especially in high-pressure moments where her experience often made the difference. While the team now enters a new phase built around emerging talent and shared responsibility, Perry’s heartfelt message and enduring legacy continue to inspire the squad and the fanbase alike.
Though she may be cheering from afar, the standards she set and the memories she created remain deeply embedded in RCB’s identity, serving as a reminder that her impact on the franchise extends well beyond her appearance in the league.
