India will make its first appearance since the historic ODI World Cup triumph when they face Sri Lanka in a five-match Women’s T20I series late next month. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the tour after the originally scheduled fixtures against Bangladesh were postponed owing to political tensions between the two nations.

The series marks India’s return to international action after they lifted their maiden World Cup, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final at the DY Patil Stadium on November 2. It also signals the beginning of the team’s roadmap towards the T20 World Cup 2026, set for June.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s side will resume competitive cricket in Visakhapatnam, a venue that recently hosted two of India’s matches during the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup—against South Africa and Australia. The first two T20Is are scheduled there before the action shifts south to Thiruvananthapuram for the final three games.
This series not only fills the vacant December window but also serves as India’s first step in preparing for the next global T20 event. After an early exit in the 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup, India rebuilt momentum with series wins against West Indies (2–1) and England (3–2). Having finally broken their ICC title drought, expectations are naturally higher as they transition into the shorter format with renewed confidence.
Following the five-match contest against Sri Lanka, the players will shift focus to Season 4 of the Women’s Premier League in January – February. India will then tour Australia in February-March 2026, followed by a home series against England in May, two crucial assignments lined up ahead of the T20 World Cup.
The Women in Blue now face an important phase where consistency and squad depth will be key, especially as the T20I format demands sharper adaptability. This upcoming series provides a timely opportunity to test combinations, refine roles, and continue the competitive rhythm post-World Cup.
