Deepti Sharma Set to Spark Bidding Frenzy at WPL 2026 Mega Auction, Says Veda Krishnamurthy

In the build-up to the much-awaited Women’s Premier League (WPL) Mega Auction on November 27, 2025, in New Delhi, all eyes are on one name, Deepti Sharma. The 28-year-old Indian all-rounder, fresh off a record-breaking World Cup campaign and known for her consistency in both departments, is set to be one of the most sought-after players as all five franchises look to rebuild and reinforce their squads ahead of the league’s fourth edition.

Deepti’s reputation as a reliable match-winner has only intensified after her unforgettable performance in the recently concluded ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, where India, under Harmanpreet Kaur’s captaincy and Amol Muzumdar’s guidance, lifted their maiden ICC title at the senior level.

Deepti played a pivotal role in India’s historic triumph, earning the Player of the Tournament award after scoring 215 runs at a strike rate of 90.33 and picking up 22 wickets, the most by any bowler in the competition. Her all-round brilliance was instrumental in the 52-run victory over South Africa, led by Laura Wolvaardt, in the final at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

With such form and pedigree, it’s no surprise that former India cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy believes Deepti will be the most in-demand player in the upcoming auction.

“Deepti Sharma is a proven match-winner from earlier WPL seasons, performing brilliantly with both bat and ball. She also won the Player of the Tournament award in the recently concluded Women’s ODI World Cup. Her demand will definitely be high in the mega-auction, and every franchise will be watching her closely,” Veda remarked during a JioHotstar show.

Deepti’s numbers further strengthen her case. In the WPL, representing UP Warriorz, she has been equally versatile, scoring 507 runs at a strike rate of 117.63 and taking 27 wickets in 25 matches. Her ability to deliver under pressure and adapt to varying conditions makes her one of the most complete players in the domestic circuit.

The WPL Mega Auction is expected to be one of the most competitive yet, with 277 players vying for 73 spots, 194 of them Indians, including 52 capped and 142 uncapped talents. Among the capped players, Deepti stands tall as a marquee figure, positioned in the Rs 50 lakh base-price bracket alongside 18 others. Given that UP Warriorz retained only Shweta Sehrawat ahead of the auction, it seems likely that the franchise might aggressively bid to reclaim Deepti’s services, though they will face stiff competition.

Former India skipper Anjum Chopra echoed this sentiment, signalling which franchises could enter a bidding war for the star all-rounder. “Gujarat Giants should definitely consider Deepti Sharma in the mega-auction. Delhi Capitals might also target her as an Indian player who strengthens both batting and bowling. UP Warriorz could be the third team interested after Gujarat and Delhi in acquiring her services,” Chopra said.

As teams prepare for the fourth WPL season, following title triumphs by Mumbai Indians (2023 and 2025) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (2024), the dynamic of the mega auction is expected to reshape the competition once again. With each franchise seeking the perfect balance between youth, experience, and versatility, players like Deepti Sharma embody the complete package that can define a season’s fortunes.

No longer just a dependable performer, Deepti is now a proven world champion and a tactical asset capable of leading a bowling attack and stabilising an innings alike. As the hammer rises on November 27 in New Delhi, few names will trigger as much anticipation, or as many bidding duels, as the name Deepti Sharma.
