In a defining moment for Bangladesh women’s cricket, 23-year-old middle-order batter Sobhana Mostary etched her name in the record books by surpassing the 1,000 international runs milestone during their final league-stage encounter of the 13th ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 against India at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, on 26th October 2025.

Entering the game four runs shy of the mark, Sobhana’s fluent 26 off 21 balls, laced with four boundaries, not only powered her past the landmark but also reflected her growing maturity and composure on the global stage. Though rain forced the contest to be reduced to 27 overs per side and eventually ended in a washout, Sobhana’s innings stood as a personal high point in an otherwise rain-curtailed fixture won at the toss by India’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who opted to bowl first.
Bangladesh’s campaign in the ongoing 13th edition of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup, hosted jointly by India and Sri Lanka from 30th September to 2nd November 2025, saw the Nigar Sultana Joty-led side finish seventh, with three points from seven matches (one win, one no result, and five defeats). Despite the team’s inconsistent run, Sobhana Mostary emerged as one of Bangladesh’s brightest performers, finishing as the second-highest run-scorer for the side with 195 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 75 and an average of 39.
Her standout performance came against Australia, led by Alyssa Healy, on 16th October 2025 at Visakhapatnam, where she crafted a brilliant career-best 66* off 80 balls adorned with nine boundaries, becoming the first Bangladeshi woman to score a 50-plus against Australia in an ODI. Though Bangladesh went on to lose that fixture by 10 wickets, Sobhana’s innings earned wide praise for its technical balance and fearless strokeplay against the world champions.
Other notable contributions included steady partnerships in the middle order that helped stabilise innings under pressure. Her consistency and adaptability underlined the emergence of a reliable middle-order cornerstone for Bangladesh’s future campaigns.
Since making her ODI debut on 14th May 2018 against South Africa at Bloemfontein, Sobhana Mostary has gradually evolved into Bangladesh’s technically sound middle-order batter. Across 30 ODIs, she has now accumulated 436 runs at a strike rate of 65.96 and an average of 22.94, including two half-centuries. Her ability to rotate strike, read the game situation, and counter spin with soft hands has made her a dependable player in challenging conditions.
While Bangladesh’s top order has often struggled for stability, Sobhana’s continued presence has provided the team with crucial middle-order partnerships. Her development from a promising youngster to an established ODI contributor mirrors Bangladesh’s steady rise in the women’s game over the past few years.
Sobhana’s journey in the T20I format began on 23rd August 2019 against the Netherlands at Utrecht. Since then, she has represented Bangladesh in 47 T20Is, scoring 586 runs at a strike rate of 84.55 and an average of 15.42. While consistency remains an area for growth, her aggressive intent and improved boundary frequency have brought dynamism to Bangladesh’s T20 setup.
Her growing adaptability across formats, switching between the tempo of T20s and the patience of ODIs, has been key to her international progression. This versatility, coupled with sharp running between the wickets and an expanding range of shots, continues to cement Sobhana’s role as a vital cog in Bangladesh’s batting framework.
Sobhana Mostary’s 1,000-run milestone is not just a personal achievement but a reflection of Bangladesh’s evolving cricketing landscape. As the team eyes their next cycle of global assignments, Sobhana stands poised to be at the forefront, a symbol of youthful promise, perseverance, and the quiet excellence shaping the future of Bangladesh women’s cricket.
