South Western Districts Women produced a calm and clinical show to beat Western Province Women by 75 runs in match 2 of the CSA Women Pro50 Series 2025-26. Opting to bat first on a lively wicket, South Western Districts braved initial pressure to post a strong total of 237, due to a solid team batting performance and the opposition’s errant bowling.

Opening batter Julia Hoal set the first anchor with a composed 50 off 75 balls, hitting six sharp boundaries and setting the tone through the early overs. The pick of the innings was Izel Cilliers, whose restrained and classy 65 from 106 balls underpinned the innings and served as the foundation around which the rest of the batting lineup revolved.

Captain Zintle Kula performed a crucial cameo, being proactive in the middle overs with a 38-ball 36, making sure the run rate never fell short of being controlled. Extras came into their own, as Western Province Women donated 34 runs including a breathtaking 29 wides helping South Western Districts to a demanding 237/9 off their full complement.

Western Province Women bowling lineup displayed depth and variation, with key contributions from Leah Jones (2/40) and Delmi Tucker (2/35) leading the charge. Kayla Reyneke supported well with a steady spell of 1/35 at an economy of 3.50, showing great control. Overall, the bowling unit worked cohesively, using variations and pressure to contain the opposition, though a few extras and slightly high economy rates in the latter overs cost them momentum.

Western Province Women were out of luck from the very beginning, losing wickets at frequent intervals and failing to establish solid partnerships. Their pursuit was centred almost solely on veteran batter Dane van Niekerk, who demonstrated great resilience with a battling 66 runs from 78 deliveries and 8 boundaries. Erratic efforts from Jemma Botha (29) and Jae-Leigh Filander (15) offered glints of optimism, but none offered the intensity or frequency necessary to pursue the target.

The well-disciplined South Western Districts bowling attack,showed strong teamwork with every bowler contributing effectively. Nicolien Janse van Rensburg was the most economical, conceding only 19 runs in 7 overs at 2.71 per over, while also picking up 2 wickets.

Zintle Kula (2/22) and Yolandi Potgieter (2/23) were also impactful, maintaining tight lines and applying pressure. Kiara Fisher and Lucian Swartz chipped in with 2 wickets each, ensuring consistent breakthroughs. Overall, the attack was disciplined and balanced, with six bowlers sharing wickets and restricting the opposition effectively.

The pursuit fizzled out quickly enough as Western Province were bowled out for 162 within 41 overs, failing to pick themselves up from their constant falls. South Western Districts’ overall plan was on display throughout and ended up tipping the game their way.

South Western Districts Women, with their solid and steadfast performance, wrapped up a well-deserved victory and left themselves well poised for the remainder of the competition.
