Dewmi Vihanga is one of Sri Lanka’s most exciting young prospects, combining sharp off-spin with useful lower-order batting. Her progress through domestic and age-group cricket has been rapid, marking her as a player to watch for the future.
She rose to prominence with Dambulla in the 2019 Women’s Super Provincial T20, and in 2023 starred at the inaugural Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, earning a place in the Team of the Tournament. That same year, she was also picked for the Sri Lanka Cricket Board XI in a warm-up against Bangladesh, highlighting her rapid rise.
Vihanga made her ODI debut on 2 May 2025 against South Africa, immediately making an impact. In the same Tri-Nation Series, she delivered a match-winning performance with a five-wicket haul (5/43) on 9 May against South Africa and finished as the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 11 wickets. In her first 4 ODIs, she has already picked up 11 wickets at an average of 18.81, alongside useful contributions with the bat.
As she heads into her maiden World Cup campaign, Vihanga represents the new generation of Sri Lankan cricketers—fearless, disciplined, and capable of turning games with her bowling. With her ability to strike at crucial moments, she is rapidly establishing herself as a genuine match-winner in the making.
