From the lanes of Moga, Punjab, to the grandest stages of world cricket, Harmanpreet Kaur has carved her name as one of the most influential figures in Indian women’s cricket. Practicing with boys in her early years instilled a fearless brand of cricket in her, which soon became her hallmark. Domestically, she represents Punjab and has also played with the Indian Railways, and she broke barriers by becoming the first Indian (man or woman) to sign with the Big Bash League when she joined Sydney Thunder in 2016–17. Over the years, she has showcased her talent for Melbourne Renegades, Lancashire Thunder, and Manchester Originals.
WPL Title in 2023 and 2025
Her leadership qualities shone brightest in franchise cricket, where she captained the Mumbai Indians to two Women’s Premier League titles (2023 and 2025), becoming the first captain to win multiple WPL trophies. Notably, in the 2021–22 WBBL, she was crowned Player of the Tournament, topping both batting and bowling charts for the Renegades.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s International Career
On the international stage, Harmanpreet made her ODI debut against Pakistan on 7 March 2009. Since then, she has become India’s backbone, playing 150 ODIs and amassing 4,080 runs at an average of 37.43, with 7 centuries and 19 fifties, alongside 31 wickets. Her defining knock came in the 2017 World Cup semi-final against Australia, where she blasted an unforgettable 171*—an innings that not only carried India to the final but also altered the landscape of women’s cricket in the country.
Her consistency was further highlighted in 2022, her most prolific ODI year, where she scored 754 runs in 16 innings at an average of 58.0, with two centuries and five fifties. Recently, in July 2025, during India’s tour of England, she yet again showcased her class, finishing as India’s top run-getter in the ODI series with 126 runs, including a match-winning 102 off 84 balls in the decider.
If 2017 established Harmanpreet Kaur as a torchbearer with her epochal 171*, then the years since have only reaffirmed her stature as a cornerstone of Indian cricket. Blending power with poise, she continues to inspire, embodying both the resilience of a leader and the brilliance of a match-winner.
