The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) is set to usher in a new chapter in domestic women’s cricket with the inaugural edition of the Maharani Trophy 2025, a T20 tournament dedicated to promoting women’s talent in the state. This marks KSCA’s first major women’s T20 competition, expanding on the success of the Maharaja Trophy, the men’s tournament that launched in 2022.

The auction for the much-anticipated tournament was held on July 30, drawing attention from fans and scouts alike. A total of five teams will participate in this historic first edition of the tournament, four of which are also part of the Maharaja Trophy circuit.
The teams are Bengaluru Blasters Women, Hubli Tigers Women, Mangaluru Dragons Women, Mysore Warriors Women, Shivamogga Lioness Women.
The auction saw fierce bidding for top talents. Leading the charts was Niki Prasad, captain of India’s victorious U-19 Women’s World Cup team, who was snapped up by Bengaluru Blasters for INR 3.70 lakh, becoming the tournament’s most expensive player. Shubha Satheesh was picked by Mysore Warriors for INR 3.10 lakh, and Mithila Vinod was signed by Shivamogga Lioness for INR 3 lakh, rounding out the top three high-value picks.
The Maharani Trophy 2025 is scheduled to kick off on Monday, August 4, and will conclude on Sunday, August 10. Each team will play once against the other four in the league stage, after which the top four sides will move into the semi-finals. A total of 13 matches will be played, 12 at the KSCA Cricket Ground in Alur, with the grand final set to take place at the prestigious M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
With strong backing from KSCA and rising talent on display, the Maharani Trophy promises to be a steppingstone for women cricketers in Karnataka and a significant boost to the domestic women’s cricket calendar.
