Nonkululeko Mlaba: The Reigning Star of South African Women’s Cricket

Mlaba walked away with a staggering four awards, underlining her dominance across formats and her ever-growing stature as one of South Africa’s premier cricketing talents. Recognised for a successful year where she excelled in both Tests and T20Is, she was also the second-highest wicket-taker at the 2024 T20 World Cup. Mlaba achieved a remarkable feat by taking 10 wickets (10/157) in a Test against England in December 2024 — a first for a South African woman. She was the second-highest wicket-taker in the 2024 T20 World Cup tournament, scalping 12 wickets. She recorded her best T20I figures of 4/29 against the West Indies during the 2024 World Cup.

SA Women’s Player of the Year:

Honoured for her impact across formats, Mlaba’s consistency with the ball, tactical brilliance, and on-field presence made her an indispensable force for the Proteas. This prestigious accolade crowns her as the leading light of the women’s game in South Africa.

Women’s T20 International Player of the Year:

In the shortest format, Mlaba’s performances were nothing short of spectacular. Her fiery spells, ability to strike in crucial moments, and command over spin made her a match-winner, series after series.

Women’s Players’ Player of the Year:

Perhaps the most heartfelt recognition of all, this award was voted by her peers — a testament to the respect and admiration she commands within the team. A leader by example and a champion of the grind, Mlaba continues to inspire the next generation of South African cricketers.

Ayanda Hlubi: International Women’s Newcomer of the Year

International Women’s Newcomer of the Year was awarded to the fiery young pacer Ayanda Hlubi, who made waves with her fearless energy and raw pace. Bursting onto the international scene, Hlubi showcased flashes of brilliance and proved that the future of South African bowling is in safe hands. She delivered two wickets for 15 runs in a whirlwind spell against Bangladesh on her T20I debut, earning her a Player-of-the-Match award. Her rise signals a fresh, exciting era for Proteas Women.

Annerie Dercksen: Women’s One Day International Player of the Year

Claiming the Women’s One Day International Player of the Year title, Annerie Dercksen stood tall as South Africa’s cornerstone in the 50-over format. She was ICC’s Newcomer of 2024 and was named Women’s ODI Player of the Year. She was the leading run-scorer in the tri-series against India and Sri Lanka in May, where she also scored her first ODI century (104). Her ability to anchor innings, adapt to match situations, and deliver under pressure made her a consistent performer and a vital cog in the ODI setup.
