Tammy Beaumont Shines with Back-to-Back Hundreds as The Blaze Dominate, Grace Scrivens’ Heroic Ton Falls Short

Tammy Beaumont delivered a stunning encore to her earlier heroics with the bat, notching up a second consecutive century as she spearheaded The Blaze Women to another convincing victory—this time against Essex Women in the 17th match of the Women’s One Day Cup 2025 at Loughborough. Chasing a competitive 232, Beaumont remained undefeated on 116, anchoring a successful pursuit that ended in just 40.5 overs and secured a five-wicket triumph with 55 balls still to spare.

In Loughborough, it was a battle of two standout centuries—but only one would lead to victory. Grace Scrivens, Essex’s resilient skipper, put on a remarkable display of endurance and class. Opening the batting and carrying her bat throughout the full 50 overs, Scrivens crafted an unbeaten 120 off 134 balls, laced with 11 fours and a solitary six. Despite her herculean effort, Essex faltered due to lack of significant partnerships and finished at 231/9.

Scrivens found brief support from Jodi Grewcock (28 off 52), and later with Amara Carr (34 off 49), but the rest of the batting lineup collapsed around her.

Sarah Glenn (3/36), Orla Prendergast (3/32) and Grace Ballinger (2/29) led the charge for The Blaze with the ball, applying pressure from the outset. Ballinger struck in her first over itself, dismissing Alice Macleod, and Glenn and Prendergast consistently broke up key stands as Essex failed to build any momentum beyond Scrivens’ solitary brilliance.

In response, The Blaze came out with intent. Tammy Beaumont, exuding poise, stitched together a 92-run opening stand with Amy Jones, who contributed a handy 41 off 51 before being dismissed by Essex’s standout bowler, Beth MacGregor. Beaumont was far from finished, adding a further 104 runs alongside Kathryn Bryce (47 off 62), effectively batting Essex out of the game.

Although there was a brief flutter of wickets with Georgie Boyce (6 off 3), and Orla Prendergast (2 off 3) falling cheaply, Beaumont held firm to see her side over the line with 235/5 in 40.5 overs.

MacGregor (3/42) was Essex’s most effective bowler, bowling with tight lines and removing two set batters. Kate Coppack (1/43), and Eva Gray (1/47) offered support but struggled to contain a rampant Blaze top order driven by a captain in peak form.

Just two days prior, at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, Beaumont had already showcased her class with another unbeaten knock—112 off 113 balls— chasing down 189 against Hampshire Women. Her innings featured 11 boundaries and 2 sixes, and alongside Georgia Elwiss (58* off 75), she stitched a massive unbeaten partnership of 159 runs to finish the chase in only 36.5 overs.

The Blaze bowlers had earlier stifled Hampshire to 189/7 in 50 overs, with Sarah Glenn (3/36) and Charley Philips (2/50) doing the bulk of the damage. Despite Ella McCaughan’s fighting 57 off 77 for Hampshire, the rest of the batters never truly found rhythm.

Tammy Beaumont’s consecutive centuries have propelled her to second on the run-scorers list with 292 runs at 97.33, underlining her dominance in chases. Grace Scrivens’ unbeaten 120, though in a losing cause, pushed her into the top five with 251 runs, highlighting the weight of her lone-handed effort for Essex.
