Cricketing action in Europe just gets better as Cyprus Women are touring the Czech Republic for a 5-match T20I series starting May 2. The action continues to last long as two games are played on each day i.e on the 2nd and 3rd whereas the final T20I will be played on 4th of May. The Scott Page Field in Vinor, Prague will be hosting all 5 games against the Cyprus Women.

Cyprus Women’s team are considered to be a growing team in the world of Women’s Cricket. Recently, having hosted a Quadrangular series consisting of teams like Isle of Man, Jersey, and Denmark, Cyprus turned out to be the last team on the points table in the Quadrangular series, having lost all their games. The only positive from the series for Cyprus Women was to cross the 100 run mark against the Isle of Man. This indeed was considered a positive sign for the Cyprus Women’s team.
Cyprus Women’s team captain Iresha Chathurani has been in great touch considering her performance in the Quadrangular series, having three 20+ scores. A perfect example of a captain leading from the front, whether it be batting or bowling, she has managed to pick wickets at regular intervals.
On the other hand, Czechia also hasn’t had the best of the tournaments, losing all their games in the Women’s Central Europe Cup played in June 2024, which featured teams like Gibraltar and Croatia. One big concern for Czechia would be that they lost all their games by huge margins, which will definitely play in their minds.
A big initiative taken by Czechia to rectify and solve their problem is that they have introduced a Women’s Development League consisting of three teams. Here, games will be played throughout the season, mostly during the weekends.
The series between Czechia Women and Cyprus Women will give immense confidence to both the teams who have not had the best of the tournaments respectively in the past.
