Day 2: Henrietta Pereira’s 67 and Shree Charani’s 6-fer puts the game hanging in the balance

The Minnu Mani-led Team A put themselves in a strong position, restricting Team B to 258/8 after the end of the first day’s play in the ongoing edition of the Senior Women’s Multi-day Challenger Trophy at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Dehradun.

The Harleen Deol-led side just managed to add 10 runs to their overnight total of 258/8 in 97 overs, folding for 268 in 100.2 overs, early on in the 2nd day’s play. Ayushi Soni (57* off 158 balls) completed her well-deserved half-century and stayed unbeaten throughout the innings for her side.

Tanuja Kanwer wrapped up the innings by accounting for the last couple of wickets, finishing as one of the stand-out bowlers for Team A returning with match figures of 13.2-2-36-3 in her impressive spell for her side.

The Team A openers Shweta Sehrawat and Shubha Satheesh got their side off to a solid start with a 51-run opening partnership. N Shree Charani broke the stand by removing Shweta Sehrawat (7) in the 14th over of the innings, providing the much-needed first breakthrough for Team B, she also cleaned up Shubha Satheesh (43) to provide the 2nd breakthrough for her side.

Wicket-keeper batter Richa Ghosh joined Dinesh Vrinda at the crease and the duo stitched a 20-run partnership for the 3rd wicket before Shree Charani cleaned up Richa Ghosh to get the 3rd scalp of the day in her spell in the 24th over of the innings. M R Magre joined Vrinda Dinesh at the crease and the duo stitched a crucial 33-run partnership for the 4th wicket to take their side past the 100-run mark. Skipper Harleen Deol picked up the wicket of Magre to provide the 4th breakthrough for her side.

Shree Charani returned and denied Dinesh Vrinda her well-deserved half-century as she departed for 44 (85 balls) in the 39th over of the innings to provide the 5th breakthrough for her side. A vital 48-run 6th wicket partnership between skipper Minnu Mani and Henrietta Pereira got them closer to the 200-run mark, leading a solid recovery for their side.

N Shree Charani continued her dream day as she got the big scalp of the opposition skipper Minnu Mani (16 off 43 balls) in the 55th over of the innings. Arundhati Reddy partnered with Henrietta Pereira at the crease and the pair capitalised on the platform by forming another vital 68-run partnership for the 7th wicket, eating up the major chunk of the total.

Charani bagged another scalp as she dismissed a well-set Henrietta Pereira (67 off 166 balls) in the 84th over of the innings to provide the 7th breakthrough for her side. She completed her well-crafted half-century before getting dismissed.

Sayali Satghare (11* off 25 balls) joined Arundhati Reddy (39* off 94 balls) at the crease and Team A eventually ended the 2nd day’s play at 260/7 in 90 overs, trailing by 8 runs.

Nallapureddy Shree Charani was the star of the show with the ball for Team B, as she returned with sensational match figures (31-8-71-6) in her impactful spell for her side. Skipper Harleen Deol (12-2-38-1) was another wicket-taker with the ball for her side on the 2nd day’s play.
