England Women A have confirmed their white-ball captains for the upcoming tour of Australia, scheduled from March 26 to April 15. The tour includes three T20s, three 50-over matches, and a four-day game against Australia A.

Grace Scrivens, the former England Women U19 captain and current Essex skipper, has been named captain for the T20 series. The 21-year-old previously led England in the 2023 U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, where she was named Player of the Series after scoring 293 runs and taking nine wickets, despite England finishing as runners-up to India. She will now lead the team at Hurstville Oval in the shortest format of the game.
In the 2024 domestic season, Scrivens showcased exceptional form for Sunrisers, playing 26 matches across the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, 50-over competition and the Charlotte Edwards Cup, 20-over competition. Demonstrating both skill and leadership, she guided her team to the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy title, finishing as the tournament’s leading run-scorer for her side with 553 runs, including a magnificent century – 118* off 123 – against Central Sparks.
Meanwhile, Hollie Armitage has been appointed captain of the 50-over squad. Armitage, who was recently named Durham’s captain for the upcoming domestic season, scored 370 runs in 10 matches in the 2024-24 Women’s National Cricket League, Australia’s domestic 50-over competition. The 27-year-old all-rounder will lead the team in three one-day matches at Cricket Central. The captain for the four-day red-ball game will be announced in due course.
England Women A have also provided an injury update on all-rounder Danielle Gibson, who has withdrawn from the tour due to a stress fracture in her back. Gibson, who had been experiencing back pain, underwent scans in Sydney that confirmed the injury. She has returned to the UK for further medical assessment and will begin rehabilitation with the England and Somerset medical teams.
To replace Gibson, Essex’s Eva Gray has been called up to join the England Women A squad for the four-day match. She will travel to Australia after completing Essex’s pre-season tour in Abu Dhabi. Working her way up the ranks, Gray claimed 21 wickets across both the 50-over and 20-over domestic games last summer. Notably, during Oval Invincibles’ glory season in 2022, she finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker. A proven contributor with the bat, Gray is a capable batter and will aim to leave a big impact.
With a strong and competitive squad, England Women A are set to deliver impressive performances across formats in what promises to be an exciting series against Australia A.
