With the intention of taking women’s cricket forward, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has offered the women cricketers a central contract hence motivating the talent to move ahead with monetary security and the much-deserved acknowledgment. 20 national and 15 emerging women cricketers, with six and three-month contracts respectively are given Central contract. The players have been grouped under four ‘rate’ categories, namely A, B, C, and D, whilst the emerging women cricketers have been offered a fixed monthly rate and an attendance allowance.
The national cricketers have also been given an additional monthly allowance to purchase supplements, said Sri Lanka Cricket in a media release on Sunday. “The ‘contracted’ players were nominated by the national women’s selection committee, based on the performance, availability and future requirements,” it stated, while the payments of various categories haven’t been revealed yet.
Sri Lanka women recently wrapped up the tour of Australia, where they faced the Aussies in 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs, which were part of the ICC Women’s ODI Championship. Disappointingly, the Sri Lankan team didn’t manage to grab even a single victory in the series.
