The women’s side of Gloucestershire Cricket, the county cricket club, on February 24, announced the appointment of Lauren Rowles as their new head coach, highlighting the club’s commitment to the growth and progression of their women’s team.

Lauren Rowles is no stranger to the club. Having begun her playing career with Gloucestershire 17 years ago, she now returns to the county with a wealth of coaching experience.
She has been serving as the head coach of England Men’s Learning Disability team since 2022 and will retain this role while taking on her new responsibilities at Gloucestershire.
She also spent four years at Central Sparks, initially as assistant coach and later as Regional Talent Manager, where she played a key role in developing young players from the Emerging Players Programme (EPP) and Academy Cricket into professional cricketers.
Furthermore, Rowles’ experience in coaching roles across multiple county pathways has honed her skills in identifying and nurturing talent.
Speaking about her appointment, she expressed her pride in returning to Gloucestershire, “I think it’s something that many first-class counties thought may never happen (appointing a full-time Women’s Head Coach), but it’s so exciting – maybe a little daunting – but exciting, nonetheless.”
Rowles acknowledged the team’s youthful composition, with approximately 75% of the squad consisting of young, talented players. She emphasized the importance of learning from one another and expressed excitement about the Club’s direction in the next three to five years.
Laura Charles-Price, Head of Talent Pathways at Gloucestershire Cricket, welcomed Rowles to the role, highlighting her expertise and leadership qualities, “We were fortunate to interview some outstanding candidates for the role, but Lauren Rowles really stood out. She brings the perfect balance of no-nonsense leadership and empathetic understanding, making her an ideal fit for the position.”
The team, under Rowles’ guidance, will commence their campaign at the Seat Unique Stadium against Derbyshire Falcons on Saturday, 19 April, in the One Day Cup Women’s League 2.
