Continuing this tradition, the BCCI, under the leadership of ICC Chairman and former BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, launched the “Donate Organs, Save Lives” campaign. This initiative was prominently featured during the third ODI between India and England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on February 12. Players from both teams donned green armbands to symbolize their support for organ donation.

The initiative was announced on Monday and Jay Shah on X wrote, “Sport has the power to inspire, unite, and create lasting impact beyond the field. Through this initiative, we urge everyone to take a step towards giving the greatest gift of all – the gift of life. One pledge, one decision, can save multiple lives. Let’s come together and make a difference!”

The campaign received widespread appreciation and support from the cricketing fraternity, including former Indian women’s team captain Mithali Raj. Taking to social media, she hailed the initiative as a moment that transcends the game, applauding Jay Shah and BCCI for their leadership in the historic pledge drive. She urged the cricketing community to unite and contribute towards making a difference beyond the field.

“Some moments in sport go beyond the game and today is one of them! Kudos to @JayShah and @BCCI for leading a historic organ donation pledge drive, an initiative that truly embodies the spirit of giving. Let’s unite through the sport we love and make a difference beyond the field!” Mithali wrote on X.

Initiatives like these are a testament to the fact that cricket serves as a beacon of change and aims to create a profound impact beyond the boundary lines.
