Imran’s hiring comes after Hashan Tillakaratne completed his tenure, which saw a mix of historic wins and subpar performances. Most recently, Bangladesh had a disastrous tour of the West Indies, where they lost both ODI and T20 series by 2-1 and 3-0.

“We have decided to appoint Imran (Sarwar) as our national women’s team head coach after the post went vacant following the departure of Hasan,” Bangladesh Cricket Board president Faruque said.

“When I took over, I promised that I would try my level best to provide a platform for local coaches in the national setup, and the appointment of Imran is part of that pledge. What I feel is that if we don’t give them the responsibility, how can we know whether they are performing or not,” he said.

Since the 1980s, Imran has played a significant role in nurturing the nation’s cricketing talent. During his lengthy coaching career, he was head coach for Bangladesh’s very first Test match in 2000.

In addition, he has coached the National Cricket Academy, the Bangladesh A team, and was also the head coach of the Bangladesh U-19 women’s squad at the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia. At a practice session at the National Cricket Academy in Mirpur, he was observed coaching the batters.

Imran’s appointment by the Bangladesh Cricket Board is a strategic move to provide stability and direction to the women’s team, especially for the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2025, a crucial competition that will decide qualification for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, as the sport of cricket in Bangladesh is shifting its focus to local coaching talent.

Bangladesh has shown promise in recent years, but its inconsistent performance has caused worry. The team will need to address major issues under Sarwar Imran, especially in the batting area where collapses have been common.

The team’s bowling attack, especially their strong spin contingent, will be strengthened by his leadership. Imran will be in charge of fitness exercises, net sessions, and match simulations during the Bangladesh women’s team’s ongoing training camp and in the upcoming weeks as part of their World Cup Qualifier campaign.
