BCCI Announces INR 5 Crore Prize Money for U19 World Cup winning women’s squad

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash prize of INR 5 crore for the victorious Indian women’s team that clinched its second consecutive Under-19 T20 World Cup title on Sunday. The Niki Prasad-led side hammered South Africa by 9 wickets in the final to defend its title while remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament.

The apex governing board expressed their words of appreciation for the invincible girls and recognised the dominant efforts in clinching the coveted ICC title.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) extends its heartfelt congratulations to the India Under-19 women’s team for successfully defending their title at the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 in Malaysia. To honour this remarkable achievement, the BCCI has announced a cash reward of INR 5 Crore for the victorious squad and support staff, led by Head Coach Nooshin Al Khadeer,” read the statement by BCCI.

The group displayed remarkable skill, composure and talent that stamped their authority at the highest competitive stage in their respective age group. The squad won 7 matches in a row and culminated their campaign with a crushing victory over the Proteas at Bayuemas Oval, Kuala Lumpur.

“Congratulations to our girls for retaining the U19 Women’s World Cup. It has been an exemplary campaign wherein they’ve remained unbeaten throughout. We spoke about their performances at the Naman Awards last night and today they have made us all proud. This trophy reflects the growth of women’s cricket in India, and I’ extremely delighted to see each member shine in this tournament. I once again would like to congratulate the entire team, coaches and the support staff for a fantastic show,” said Roger Binny, President, BCCI.

The tournament witnessed exceptional performance from the team with several players chipping in at different occasions. Gongadi Trisha finished as the highest-run scorer of the tournament with 309 runs and was named the Player of the Match and the Player of the Tournament as she picked 7 wickets too. Spinners Vaishnavi Sharma and Aayushi Shukla took the charge with the ball, picking up 17 and 14 wickets respectively, and finished at the top of the wicket-taking tally.

India’s consecutive victory in the inaugural 2023 edition and 2025 symbolises the depth in women’s cricket and is setting higher benchmarks for the girls in the country. The teenage girls etched history as they, this time around, clinched the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup without losing a single game. The fantastic World Cup campaign is a testament to India’s strong age group and grassroots structure.

Coming to the finals, an unbeaten South African side opted to bat first but lost openers Simone Lourens and Jemma Botha early on. Indian spinners continued to make inroads and claimed 9 wickets to dismiss the opposition on a modest total of 82.

India needed 82 runs to defend their crown and got off to a flier in no time. Player of the Match Gongadi Trisha took the bowlers to the cleaners and ended as the top scorer (44* off 33) of the match. She was ably accompanied by batter Sanika Chalke (26* off 22), who guided the team to a 9-wicket victory with 52 balls to spare.
