Dercksen’s journey to international stardom began in January 2023, when she debuted during a T20I triangular series involving India and West Indies. While her first year saw her feature in just five T20Is, 2024 proved to be a breakout year as she made her ODI and Test debuts, firmly establishing herself on the global stage.

In 2024, Dercksen showcased her versatility, contributing significantly with both bat and ball. She scored 161 runs and claimed five wickets in 17 T20Is, maintaining a steady performance in the longest format with 60 runs in two Tests, and delivered 70 runs and six wickets in just four ODIs. Her contributions were critical to South Africa’s success in various series, including the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

The all-rounder demonstrated her batting prowess by anchoring innings, rebuilding under pressure, and accelerating the scoring rate when required. One of her standout performances came in South Africa’s sole victory against England during the limited-overs leg of their 2024 series, where her stabilizing 27 runs were instrumental. Her ability with the ball was equally noteworthy, as she claimed 11 wickets across formats, including a career-best 3/16 against England in the first ODI.

Dercksen was a vital cog in South Africa’s remarkable campaign during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, where the team reached the final before losing to New Zealand. In T20Is, she maintained an impressive average of 32.2, frequently rescuing South Africa from challenging situations. Her career-best bowling figures in the format—2/5 against Sri Lanka—came during a dominant home series in March.

In Tests, Dercksen proved her mettle during fierce battles against India and England. Her top score of 41 in Bloemfontein was particularly memorable, as she played a key role in a 92-run partnership for the second wicket, helping stabilize South Africa’s innings.

One of Dercksen’s most electrifying performances came during the lead-up to the T20 World Cup. In a decisive T20I against Pakistan, South Africa faced a daunting target of 154. The team faltered early, losing Tazmin Brits and having Anneke Bosch retire hurt at a critical juncture.

However, Dercksen rose to the occasion, smashing an unbeaten 44 off just 23 balls. Her innings, laced with six boundaries and two towering sixes, came against seasoned bowlers like Nida Dar and Sadia Iqbal. This remarkable knock not only secured a thrilling series-clinching victory for South Africa but also earned her the Player of the Match accolade.
