In a thrilling display of skill and leadership, Team A and Team E secured dominant victories in the 9th and 10th matches of the Senior Women’s One Day Challenger Trophy 2025, held in Chennai on January 13, 2025. Skippers Shafali Verma and Shubha Satheesh led their sides with stellar performances, supported by key contributions from players like Jintimani Kalita and Vasavi Akhila Pavani.
Team E Triumphs Over Team B
Team E, led by Shubha Satheesh, set the tone early after opting to bat. The opening pair of Nandani Kashyap (37 off 54) and Shubha Satheesh (71 off 86) forged a solid 76-run partnership. A follow-up 54-run stand between Satheesh and Ayushi Soni (23 off 53) brought Team E to 130 before a middle-order collapse saw them bowled out for 206 in 44.2 overs.
Radha Yadav (3/31) and I M Pathare (3/33) were standout bowlers for Team B, supported by disciplined spells from Mita Paul, Nandani Sharma, and Saranya Gadwal.
In pursuit of 207, Team B struggled to build partnerships, with Mamatha (48 off 59) and Jincy George (45 off 69) providing the only resistance. Wickets fell at regular intervals, and the team was bowled out for 148 in 37.2 overs, falling 58 runs short.
Jintimani Kalita (3/16) and Vasavi Akhila Pavani (3/12) were exceptional, supported by Madhu (2/34) and Yamuna Rana (1/28). Kalita’s tight spell earned her the Player of the Match award.
Shafali Verma Shines as Team A Dominates Team D
After being reduced to 42/4, Team D relied on partnerships from S Anusha (41 off 51), M Dakshini (42 off 48), and skipper Saika Ishaque (22 off 22) to post a competitive 211/9 in 50 overs. The lower-order batters contributed 68% of the team’s total.
Arundhati Reddy (3/27) and Shafali Verma (3/35) led the bowling attack, supported by Soniya Mendhiya (1/48), Simran Dil Bahadur (1/39), and S B Keerthana (1/27).
Chasing 212, Team A got off to a flying start with a 47-run opening stand. Verma (115 off 70) anchored the chase with a blistering century, supported by Pragya Rawat’s 33 off 51 in a 109-run second-wicket stand. Late contributions from T Sarkar (33* off 37) and M R Magre (20* off 38) ensured a six-wicket win with 83 balls to spare.
Dibyadarshini (4/35) was a bright spot for Team D, taking four key wickets.
Verma was named Player of the Match for her all-round heroics, scoring a century and taking three wickets.
