An MRI scan and a consultation with a specialist after the conclusion of the series revealed the injury, and as a result, she was ruled out of action in November 2024, for a minimum of six weeks.

“I now know how hard it is not being able to use your feet and going to the supermarket and that sort of stuff which was a bit annoying,” Georgia Plimmer reflected on the challenges she faced en route to her recovery. She was one of the stand-out performers as she was the joint leading run-scorer for New Zealand with 150 runs at an impressive strike rate of 119.04 and an average of 25 in six innings alongside Suzie Bates.

Her tally of runs included one half-century against Sri Lanka (53 off 44 balls) on 12th October 2024 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. She carried that form in the subsequent three-match ODI series against India. She was the 2nd highest run-scorer in the series with 105 runs and an impressive average of 35 in three innings with the bat for her side in the series.

She made her international debut on 6th August 2022 in a T20I against Australia in Edgbaston, Birmingham in the 2nd semi-final of the Commonwealth Games 2022. She has scored 396 runs at a strike rate of 98.01 in 30 innings. Her tally of runs includes a couple of half-centuries. Her best performance with the bat for her side in the format came against Sri Lanka and Australia when she scored 53 in both innings.

She made her ODI debut on 25th September 2022 in the 3rd ODI against the West Indies at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua. She has scored 256 runs at a strike rate of 65.13 in 17 innings. Her best performance with the bat for her side in the format came on 27th October 2024 in the 2nd ODI of the series when she scored (41 off 50 balls) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, in Ahmedabad.

“I was really excited getting into this home summer especially in the 50-over cricket because I still feel there is a lot for me to get better in that format,” said Georgia Plimmer about being keen to improve her game in the One Day format.

Owing to her injury, she is all set to miss the ongoing edition of the Women’s Super Smash, a domestic T20 competition in New Zealand. She also missed the start of the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield, the 50-over competition. On the international front, she missed the three-match ODI bilateral series coined as the Rose Bowl series against Australia.

“Hopefully this is early in my career and if I can get it right then it won’t come back. No surgery has meant it has only been weeks rather than months, which is good,” the 20-year-old opening batter Georgia Plimmer, speaks about getting her rehab right en route to her recovery.

She is expected to return to action in February with the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield, to be available for selection in their upcoming home series against Sri Lanka and Australia in March, later this year.
