Harmanpreet, who suffered a niggle last month, had been rested during the final two T20Is against the West Indies and will now report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for further evaluation. The specifics of her injury remain undisclosed, but reports suggest she has been summoned to the NCA to focus on her recovery.

In Harmanpreet’s absence, Smriti Mandhana will take charge of the Indian side, with Deepti Sharma serving as her deputy for the upcoming Ireland series. The series offers a fresh challenge as India looks to extend their dominance over Ireland, a team they have defeated in all 12 ODIs played so far. Ireland, however, will be eager to reverse their fortunes and secure a maiden win against the Women in Blue.

Harmanpreet’s absence is a significant blow to the Indian side, as the 35-year-old enjoyed a stellar run in ODIs in 2024. She finished as India’s second-highest run-scorer in the format, amassing 396 runs in 12 matches at an average of 39.60, including a brilliant unbeaten century against South Africa. Her last international outing was during the ODI series against the West Indies, where she scored 88 runs at an exceptional strike rate of 139.68.

Meanwhile, India’s pace spearhead Renuka Singh Thakur has also been rested for the Ireland series. The decision aims to manage workloads and ensure the players remain fit for future assignments.

The Indian squad for the Ireland series includes several promising names alongside seasoned stars. Players like Pratika Rawal, wicketkeeper Uma Chetry, and the dynamic Jemimah Rodrigues will add depth to the team. Mandhana, known for her calmness, will be keen to build on India’s recent successes, including a 2-1 T20I series victory over the West Indies under her leadership.

For Ireland, the series represents a monumental challenge as they seek their first-ever ODI victory against India. The visitors will rely on their core players to step up against a formidable Indian side.

The three ODIs are set to unfold between January 10 and January 15, promising an intense battle of skill and strategy. With Rajkot hosting all the matches, fans can expect thrilling contests as both teams look to make a statement early in the new year.
