Mieke Van Voorst and Kayla Reyneke’s propel South Africa to a competitive total
India A got off to a dream start, wrapping up half of the visiting South African side inside the first 9 overs of the innings after skipper Sanika Chalke won the toss and opted to field first. Mieke Van Voorst joined skipper Kayla Reyneke at the crease with their side in deep trouble at 45/5 in the 9th over of the innings and bailed their side out of trouble with a massive and much-needed 99-run 6th wicket partnership to take their side closer to the 150-run mark.
South Africa eventually ended up with a total of 149/7 in their quota of 20 overs. Skipper Kayla Reyneke (74 off 48 balls), and Mieke Van Voorst (46* off 38 balls) were the lone warriors with the bat for the visitors. The pair made a huge contribution (66%) to the team’s total. Joshitha V J (4-0-17-3), Sonam Yadav (4-0-27-2), and Chandni Sharma (4-0-22-1) were the key performers with the ball for India A.
Shabnam’s late flourish in vain as India A fold for 98
The home side, India A seemed to have succumbed to the scoreboard pressure as they found themselves in a hole at 31/6 in the 9th over, chasing a slightly challenging total of 150. Shabnam joined Sasthi Mondal, and the duo tried their best to revive the run chase with a vital 43-run 7th wicket partnership. Sasthi Mondal was run out to provide the 7th breakthrough for South Africa, potentially carrying all the hopes for the India A side, chasing down that total.
The home side was eventually bundled out for 98 with 2 overs to spare, as a result, falling 51 runs short of the target. Shabnam (42* off 24 balls), Sasthi Mondal (17 off 26 balls), and G Trisha (13 off 13 balls) fought a lone battle for India A with the bat. Fay Cowling (3-0-14-4), skipper Kayla Reyneke (3-1-5-1), and Ashleigh Van Wyk (4-0-23-1) were the top performers with the ball for South Africa.
The South African skipper Kayla Reyneke was awarded the Player of the Match for her all-round performance. She scored a sensational half-century (74 off 48 balls) and returned with exceptional match figures (3-1-5-1), playing a pivotal role in her side’s comprehensive victory.
