Day 5: Priya Punia’s 83* and Nandini Kashyap’s 74 hand Team A and E wins in Challengers Trophy

The Harleen Deol-led Team A was up against Team D led by Shafali Verma, while Team B led by Sneh Rana faced the Radha Yadav-led Team E in the final league game of the 2024 Senior Women’s T20 Challenger Trophy.

Priya Punia’s 83* powers Team A to win and a final’s berth

Team A posted a competitive total of 145/4 in their quota of overs, after the opposition skipper Shafali Verma won the toss and opted to field first. The opening batter Priya Punia managed to hold one end, as Team A kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The 62-run 4th wicket partnership contributed for a significant chunk of the team’s total (around 43%). Priya Punia (83* off 65 balls), and Arundhati Reddy (32 off 26 balls) were the significant contributors with the bat for Team A. Krutikaben (4-0-21-0), Madhu (3-0-16-2), and Falak Naz (3-0-16-1), were the positives with the ball for Team D.

Despite a half-century from Humairaa Kaazi (50 off 39 balls), and a brisk innings from Tanuja Kanwer (22 off 19 balls) Team D fell 14 runs short of the target as they were restricted to 131/8 in their quota of 20 overs. The 58-run 3rd wicket partnership between Dhara Gujjar and Humairaa Kaazi, followed by a 32-run 4th wicket partnership between Tanuja Kanwer and Humairaa Kaazi were the two substantial partnerships of the run chase. Hani Patel (4-1-12-2), Mita Paul (4-0-24-2), and Saika Ishaque (4-0-25-2) were the stand-out performers with the ball for Team A.

Team B skipper Sneh Rana won the toss and decided to put the runs on the board. On the back of an impressive half-century from the wicket-keeper batter Uma Chetry (50 off 36 balls), and crucial contributions from skipper Sneh Rana (35* off 24 balls), and Nikita Singh (24* off 15 balls) were instrumental in taking their team closer to the 150-run mark. Decent partnerships throughout the major course of the innings played its part in helping them post a competitive total of 148/5. P Naik (4-0-20-0), Sayali Satghare (4-0-31-1), and Mamta Paswan (4-0-31-1) were the key performers with the ball for Team E.

Team E openers Raghvi (33 off 33 balls), and wicket-keeper batter Nandini Kashyap (74 off 42 balls) continued her sublime form in the Senior Women’s T20 Challengers Trophy with another sensational half-century. Their 111-run opening stand took the wind out of the opposition in the run chase. Team E eventually took down the target with seven wickets in hand and 17 balls to spare. Nikita Singh (4-0-26-2), Mannat Kashyap (4-0-28-0), and Renuka Singh (3.1-0-19-0) were impressive with the ball for Team E.
