ICC Women’s Player of the Month Nominees for September 2024 Announced

Sri Lanka’s Harshitha Samarawickrama was named the Player of the Month for August, edging the other two contenders from Ireland, Gaby Lewis and Orla Prendergast to clinch the prestigious award. The ICC has now revealed the nominees for the month of September. The three nominees for the award include the veteran opening batter from England Tammy Beaumont, the 18-year-old left-arm spinner Aimee Maguire, and the United Arab Emirates skipper Esha Oza.

Tammy Beaumont (England):

After being omitted from the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup squad the 33-year-old veteran opening batter had a sensational outing in the away white-ball series against Ireland. She was the leading run-scorer of the 3-match ODI series with 212 runs at a strike rate of 109.27 and a mind-boggling average of 106 in three innings. Her tally of runs included one half-century and one century. Her best performance in the series came on 9th September 2024 when she scored an unbeaten 150* in the 2nd ODI of the series.

As far as the T20I format is concerned, she was the 3rd highest run-scorer of the series with 67 runs at a strike rate of 117.54 and an impressive average of 33.50 in a couple of innings against Ireland. She is also a strong contender for the Player of the Month award.

Aimee Maguire (Ireland):

The young 18-year-old left-arm spinner from Ireland had a sensational outing in the white-ball series against England. She was the leading wicket-taker in the series overall, and the 2nd highest in the ODIs with seven wickets to her name at an average of 16.28 and an economy of 6.77 in three innings. Her best performance in the series came when she returned with match figures (3.5-0-19-5) in her spell in the 3rd ODI of the series. She was also awarded the Player of the Match for her match-winning spell with the ball.

As far as the T20I format is concerned, she was the leading wicket-taker of the series with 5 wickets in a couple of innings at an average of 12.40 and an economy of 7.75. As a result of her impressive performances, she is one of the prime contenders to claim this prestigious award.

Esha Oza (United Arab Emirates):

The 26-year-old UAE skipper Esha Oza had an impressive all-round outing in the Namibia Tri-series involving UAE and Zimbabwe, where the UAE eventually emerged as the winners. She was the 2nd highest run-scorer of the series with 206 runs to her name at a strike rate of 102.45 and an impressive average of 34.83 in six innings with the bat for her side. Her tally of runs includes one half-century against Zimbabwe when she scored 84 off 65 balls on 10th September 2024 in the 5th match of the series.

Apart from her exploits with the bat, she also picked up 8 wickets in six innings with the ball at an average of 14.50 and an economy of 6.10 in six innings. She was also the 2nd highest wicket-taker for her side in the series. As a result of her impressive performances, she is also a prime contender for this prestigious honor.
