The Indian contingent continues to impress at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, with two more athletes adding to the country’s medal tally. Indian cricket legends Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami took to the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) to praise the remarkable achievements of these Paralympic athletes.
In the high jump event of the T47 category, Nishad Kumar secured the silver medal with an outstanding performance. On the same day, sprinter Preethi Pal won the bronze medal in the 200m T35 event, adding to the bronze she had already claimed in the 100m earlier in the Games.
Nishad Kumar, a 24-year-old talented Paralympian, delivered a brilliant performance in the men’s high jump T47 event, winning silver for the second consecutive Paralympic Games. He achieved his season’s best by clearing 2.04m on September 1, 2024, at the Paris Paralympics. In the previous edition, at the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics, Nishad also showcased his prowess by securing a silver medal with a jump of 2.06m.
On the same day, Preethi Pal made history by claiming another bronze medal in the women’s 200m T35 category, finishing with a personal best time of 30.01 seconds. Earlier, on August 30, 2024, Preethi earned India’s first athletics medal in a Paralympic track event, securing bronze in the 100m T35 competition with a personal best of 14.21 seconds. With this achievement, she etched her name in the annals of Indian Paralympic history.
These successes bring India’s Paralympic medal tally to a total of seven, an inspiring accomplishment for the athletes and the nation alike. Following these achievements, former Indian captain Mithali Raj and legendary pacer Jhulan Goswami praised Nishad Kumar and Preethi Pal on their social media accounts on ‘X’.
